Team #4 is on the board.

What a day. I set my alarm to get up at 5:30 and didn't hear it. My wife came in at 6:30 and asked if I was going hunting. I jumped up to see if was raining and went outside to see it wasn't raining and as I stood there a bird gobbled up on the hill. He was the one I was going after.
I got my stuff on in a hurry and shot out the door and up on the hill. As I was getting closer to him I realized he was on the ground on the ridge. The ridge behind my house is very steep so I knew I could get close.
I tried to get to the low spot before he did. I beat him there but he was to close for me to get on the ridge so I set about 20 yards from the ridge top. He gobbled and was coming closer. He gobbled again and I could hear the thumping in his chest http://ohioturkeyhunter.net/ohiolive/Smileys/classic/shocked.gif. He drummed and was maybe 30 yards from me but I still couldn't see him. Finally he appeared on the ridge.
I seen the beard sticking out and knew he was the one. There was a jake near him. I almost shot while he stood there but it was a little brushy. I let out 3 soft yelps and he turned to look and went into a strut. He came down the hill but it was to thick to shoot yet so I waited for him to get into the opening. When he got into the opening I seen a hen to my left and she putted and he stopped in his tracks so I said it's now or never. I pulled the trigger and he started flopping down the hill. It was 6:30 when I got up and I had the bird down at 7:07. It almost wasn't fun, almost http://ohioturkeyhunter.net/ohiolive/Smileys/classic/grin.gif

He was 21 1/2 pounds 9" beard and 1" spurs

Congrats, let me get this right? you go out your back door and get a gobbler?

Something isn't fair here? I hike a mile and a half in, up and down giant hills on Public to avoid the hunters, see no birds, but yet still see two hunters?

congrats...

limhanger, turk huntin is much different on public...turk hunters have a tendacy to go a long ways...i guess a turk might be much easier to get out...than a deer would be...good luck tomorrow:D

I know, was just being sarcastic:rolleyes:

When I stated I saw 2 turkey hunters on Public, I meant 1 turkey hunter and 1 slob. Long story, bowhunting from blind, turkey hunter appraoches and goes out of his way not to cut straight down in front of the hill I was hunting towards with dekes out. Slob comes by looks at my dekes and proceeds right by them and down over the area I was watching.

I just don't understand some hunters, I never cut straight in front of hunters setups and always go around. How did this slob know birds were not headed towards me? He didn't, and didn't care?

I hate Public anymore, but have nowhere else to hunt, that's the reason for the sarcasim:D
