I ran into the Pike county GW the other day at Walmart and asked him what I need to do in case I found a really large buck skull while shed hunting or whatever, because as I told him, "I'm taking it". I told him I generally carry a camera so I could take pics of the carcass if any was left, but should I take the pics, take the skull, and give him a call? Or give him a call before taking the skull. He told me that unless it is a fresh kill and he could tell somewhat how it was killed, he would not issue me a tag for the skull. To which I replied, "So I need to just take it, and not give you a call, because I wouldn't just leave it in the field. And take my chances on getting caught by you for a large untagged rack". He said yes, but if someone calls and says Joe has a large illegal rack and Ill have to investigate. To which I replied that I would be hit in the mouth for the violation.
He was probably shocked by my honestly admitting to breaking the law in this case. He then questioned if I knew anyone baiting turkeys. Somewhere along the lines of our relationship, Ive become an informant :mischeif:. But he is a pretty nice guy, young and ambitious, just doing his job. By the way, I don't know anyone baiting tukeys.

Maybe if you give him a few good tips he'll be a little lenient when you find those dead bucks.

I've called the GW about my deadhead I found a month ago and are still waiting for the return call from him. He might be on vacation or to busy to get back with me, but in the meantime the carcass has been drug and scattered about by the critters I had difficulty finding the head. Once I did, I wedged it in some limbs near the site just to keep some yote or dog from running off with it. It's been nearly 3 weeks since my first call and I called this past weekend. I hope he responds soon or the squirrels might be gnawling on it. I've even told him on my message that I'd take the head to his house but haven't heard a thing, I'm just waiting for his response.

I found a nice 8 pt 2 years ago during turkey season. I contacted the Belmont County GW. He returned my message within a day or two. He asked if I had photos, which I did. The body and skull were totally skeletonized. The deer actually died face down in a creek. There was a little moss already growing on the antlers and skull. I sent in pictures of the site and pictures of the skull cleaned up. He sent me a receipt in the mail within a week. I'll try to post some pics tomorrrow.

my gw here in harrison county told me i should leave the head where it lays and call him, but i have been told by other gw's that taking pics of the deer before the body or head is messed with is just fine, so i guess its all up to the gw , but he did say one hting if he can tell how old they are in the decomp state that he usually has no problem writing a tag as long as pics are taken

Don't know Never talked to one... (see reason below)...

If you talk to him again aske him the question i posted earlier... How far from bait do you have to be before it's not hunting over bait? I could see this being a grey area that can get someone screwed. If there is a corn pile on the wayne and that thunder chicken is on that ridge.. What happens if the hunter persuing that turk doesn't knowsomeone baited the area...

You've been waiting for 3 weeks.. I've been waiting years.. I called left voicemails on what they said was his cell, I called and left VM on his office phone, I even sent Emails... Not a reply to a single one... I found a head last year that was on a small isand in the north part of a lake that you can only get to when the resivoir is in winter pool.. I called again many times last year.. It has been almost 1 year to the date and I still haven't got a call.. I was back out there today and to my amazement the head was still there... I have pics and I took it home.. That reminds me i need to get that darn thing out of the bed of my truck....

Considering I am a Army vet, I own guns, I hate illegal immigration, I think out government is too big, and I think my taxes are too high. So I am now what the Department of Homeland Security has labeled a "radical extremest" conservative....

It wouldn't surprise me if they did TF.. It wouldn't surprise me at all....
