This is the honest to God truth.
Back when I was in high school I was shooting the bull with the principle before class and the topic of hunting came up.
He told me he had a 16 gauge he wanted to get rid of. I told him I was intersted, the next day he saw me and called me into his office. He brought the shot gun to school for me to look at it.
I liked it, brought him the cash the next day and we walked out of his office, down the hall ( he was carrying the shot gun ) out into the parking lot, he handed it to me and I put it away in my car.
Man can you image if that happened today? We both would be doing time in the big house!

I have quite a few teacher/guidance counselor friends. They hate the direction everything is going. It is the minority that runs the schools. They had a kid bring Aleve into school. A teacher finds out and sends her to the office. The principal let it go with out discipline other than taking the pills to give to her parents and informing them that she cannot bring them. The next day a "concerned" parent complains....the girl gets suspended. Zero tolerance and the principal was "written" up.:irked: Common sense not allowed.

P.S. The girl that was suspended took the spot of the concerned parents child in varsity basketball. What a thing to teach your daughter...Can't get the position the right way...find a way by any means.:tsk:

Not where I went to went to school- UglyKat can attest to that. There were guns in trucks.

Lots of stories I could tell about this- but this is the funniest one:

Kid thinks he's really cool and one day goes out and after schools takes his shotgun and shoots a goose out of the farmer's pond across the road. Thinks he's a BA. So we threw a decoy out there and the next day sit on the back of our trucks and after school watch him crawl on his belly to sneak up on this "bird" to shoot it in front of everyone. ...fast forward a couple minutes and the decoy was wrecked but MAN we had some laughs... :D

it tell you what happened previous generations and the generations of today continue to do things against the law excessively making it harder as time goes on. during my teenage years i found it is more fun and easier to do the things your not supposed to. simple fact you tell a kid not to steal, he sure as fire will steal just to see what its like and why you told him not too. theres so many other things that have contributed to this tight@$$ society. so many times my buddies and i have wondered what it'd be like to live back in the day when rules and life were more simple.

those were they days, i used to take my gun to school alot , the principle knew i was a a hunter and as long as i let him know it was there he didnt have a problem with it, i didnt tell the other kids i had it and always left it in my trunk of my car, i used to squirrell hunt the woods right behind the school, during deer season you would see kids changing into hunting clothes in the parking lot, guns come out stuck in gun racks and off to hunt we would go, but our principle wasnt the normal principle, he took the time to know his students on a presonal level and to know there families, i mean what principle would spend his own money to buy every student a bag of candy and hand it out during the christmas assembly, of course not every school had a tractor day or a carhart day either

and as for beentown GO KNIGHTS :D:D:D

so what's everyones opinion on what has changed?
are the kids different?,is the blame on the parents for raising kids that take a gun to school to kill?,is it society?,violent video games?
when i was young my friends and i knew the capabilities of a gun but we knew they were used for hunting or target practice.the LAST thing we would have ever thought of doing would be to use it to settle an argument.of course now if a couple of kids get into a scrap at school they're both expelled.kids are going to fight on occasion, there's no getting around that.we had a phys ed teacher that kept 2 pair of boxing gloves in his office and when 2 guys were ready to square off they put the gloves on and settled their differences.
then again,times have changed!

Sorry that you went to Ding-Town. If you read my post on 'a nation of wussies" you read about a 68-0 victory we had...over Cardington. I went 5-1 against them and the only 1 was because of the kids that are in the program now.

Anyways, nope it's still that way today (I was there last year, I think that story happened jr. year). I know of many, many guys that had guns in their car during deer or turkey season. I always had everything but my gun my parents made me promise to drop my gun off on the way to school at a friend's house just down the road. Like UglyKat said though, it's a different and very special situation than most and I loved it for that.

Another story- during FFA week we always had drive your tractor to school and wear your Carhartts day. Best day of the entire year- no joke. Every year, one of the teachers would make everyone wearing their bibs stand up in class and empty all of the pockets onto the table. Chew, shotgun shells, all sorts of caliber of bullets, knives, lighters, cigarettes...everything. We had all would have a good laugh when we realized what all was in our pockets that shouldn't be in school, and then just put the stuff back in and carried on with class.

Ernie, Sounds like your entire school would be shut down if the officals knew it was going on.

The reason everything changed, the 60's hippies grew up, and are still doing acid. and their kids voted for "CHANGE". Yesterday the Grateful Dead were partying in the OVAL office.

our school was the best around , teachers understood that 95 percent of the school hunted or fished, if we had a dispute to the locker room we went , and out came bloody noses ,black eyes, missing teeth, then we would be friends and it was all said and done, i htink the problem with todays kids is they dont get enough whoopings, i got my butt cracked when i was a kid , it taught me two things i did something wrong i had to deal with the reprecutions, (which always hurt) and it made me respect my mom ( grew up in single parent house hold) , now days we spank our kids and children services are called, only thing time out teach's is i do do something wrong i sit in a chair or in the corner for a lil bit and my punishments done, so they go back and do it again, let us spank our kids and they will learn i do something wrong i got pain coming my way, i think it would also work with criminals to, make the punishments more severe , some one rapes a child , and the basicly get a slap on the wrist, the get out and do it again, make the punishment more severe, death penalty , or public embareesment for life, thats whats wrong with this world these days there is not enough harsh punishment for someones illegal actions, life in prison thats a joke to some one kills some one, give thewm the chair, i believe in the old saying , an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth

and as for carhart day and tractor day i loved em we had to do the emptying pockets thing to in mr.parrots class , i had rub, a hunting knife a lighter and a few shotgun shells , and my squirrel call he just kept them till after school, or school has never had a shooting , a stabbing, or anything serious like that , worst we had was some bomb threats when some one wanted out of school early

I got suspended in the 5th grade for bringing in airsoft pellets. For crying out loud they were plastic pellets and I didnt even know they were in my pocket until they fell out; some teacher saw and i was in the office. And this year my friend got yelled at for having guns on his shirts what a load of bull, and they can't even find the potheads smoking a doobie in the stall. I'm telling you that is a major reason why i hate school.
