steveOh here checking in...

Live in the Dayton area, hunt turkeys down in Adams Co. Only get out three or four times during the season, my hunting partner who has the connection with the landowner can't get of work much. Me, I am retired and could go more if I had the places... Anyway, good luck to all on the season.

I finally made it out Friday, hunted with my dad. I worked a longbeard right off the roost for about an hour, but we had got caught in a bad setup. He was strutting and gobbling at my calls, but the spot we were set up in was pretty open, and when he worked his way to the open field, he didn't see the hen that was calling to him (me), and kept on moving across the field. We made a big move towards the woods he had headed into, and did some cold calling. I threw in a mouth call, and did an excited yelp, and got cut off! It ended up being 7 jakes that came running up the logging trail to within 20 yards of us. I messed around with them for awhile, I had all 7 gobbling at once, before they moved down the ridge. LOL.

I worked another bird at 10:00, but he would only give me a courtesy gobble evey other call. I am pretty sure he had hens with him.

I was going this morning, but woke up at 3:00 with a pounding headache and decided to wait for another day.

Got out today down in Adams Co. Had a Tom and three Jakes run down a hill, evidently spook by someone or something, and as they got nearer the Tom responded to our yelps. When they came out into the field that we were in they looked our way but continued on when they didn't see the yelper!
There were other hunters around and I think that they ran the birds off of the two properties. Thats what we get for hunting the weekend!

Trying to figure out when/if there is a dry window to hunt this weekend!

It's been quiet on here lately, anyone been out this week?

I hunted every day the first week. Was plagued with up and down weather, as well as hot and cold birds. One day I would have action, but any toms I heard also had hens w/ them, then the next day I wouldn't hear or see a single bird. It was pretty much like this every other day the first week. This past week I didn't get out at all. I live around the Cincinnati area, I have 2 pieces of property on the other side of the state that I have permission to hunt, but when in Cincinnati, I pretty much have to rely on a friend inviting me....whom of which I've been getting the cold shoulder this season :( So, unless I make the trip next weekend, I'm not sure I will even have a place to hunt.

I am in the same boat as far as hunting spots, hunting partner has the connection. Can't go unless he goes. He couldn't go all this past week and weekend:irked:

I hunted 14 days, and didn't get one. Closest I came was 20 minutes after 12, had my bead on one at about 45 yds and didn't pull the trigger. I'm sure I could've killed him, but....ya know...that pesky law....until next year....happy angling!....@%&#$ frickin' birds....
