Hi Darrin, good to meet ya! Just checked out some of your website, it looks great! I have a few properties around here that have birds. I have an old box call that have played with for years, I think I sound pretty good with it, don't know if the turkies will agree, we'll find out.:bouncy: Calling is one thing I'm unsure of. I don't know when and what sounds I should be making. I used to have 5 or 6 mouth calls too, i really liked messing with them, might buy a few today. I'm sure I will have some questions for ya. I'm heading out to get a choke tube for my sons gun for the youth season this weekend.

Any suggestions on a few mouth calls I should look into?

Talk to ya later, Dale:coolgleamA:

I dont check in here daily, but I do cheeck my email several times a day. If any of you want to get ahold of me quickly, you can email me at dctolle@avdoutdoors.net otherwise, I will check in every few days..

Badger, I will see what I can do to get ya a few mouth calls.. Check out our sponsor, Martin Brother's. THey have some pretty good sounding calls.. As far as the way YOU sound calling. Dont worrry about it.. The guys who do WELL in calling contests sound like great turkey CALLERS.. If you listen to turkeys in the wild, sometimes they sound like the worst caller you have ever heard.. So if you can make noise with one, it will call in some of them no matter what..

Glad to meet all of you. Sounds like all of you have a solid background with turkey hunting. I'll be looking forward to all of your inputs.

I dug some old calls out today, and some old vhs tapes, and have been messing around all day with the calls.

Got a call from a landowner that is giving me permission to Turkey hunt, because I got rid of the beaver on his place.

I'll be out tomorrow morning for a little scouting.

Any of you doing any scouting?

Just got in from the woods. Brushed in a few blinds for my sonr for the weekend. Seen alot of scratched up areas, some fresh poop, and three birds in a field just outside the woods. I was too far away to see if they had beards, and I left my binocs in the truck.

Well I woke up at 3 this morning and packed a few things in the truck and headed north. We were in the woods pretty early. Heard one hen at daylight but no gobblers. The hen was moving towards a field, so we headed that way and put out our decoys hoping she might have some boys in tow.

She never showed, but we did have other hunters on the other side of the feild. Around 8:45 or so we had a hen real close, that turned out to be yet another hunter. He came right into our calls and proceeded to setup a decoy and start calling about 200 yards from us. Couldn't believe he never looked our way, or seen our decoys.

Had enough of that spot and went and checked a few more out. Most had vehicles there so we moved on. Long story short we seen more hunters than birds. Did see a bearded hen while driving past a feild, that was pretty cool!

I'll be hunting locally tomorrow. I have a better grasp of the calling after hunting with someone with experience. Gives me a little more confidence for the rest of the season.

So how's the rest of the crew doing? Have we decided on a name? I'm leaning towards Strut Stoppers, or Limbhangers.

Well good luck guys, I'll check in later.:coolgleamA:

Have you guys decided on a name yet? If so let me know, I think I might be able to come up with a banner for the team.

After they left I walked to where they were and called as loud as I possily could and my partner couldnt hear me either.. I hope this wind lays down soon.. My son and I had some hens stay roosted above us yesterday till almost 7 am.

Today we seen three deer, a coon, a few grey squirrells, a few fox squirrels, one red squirrel, one chipmunk, and one jake by the truck.

Hunting hard, just not getting a break.

Hey Bowtech, that looks like a real nice tom, congradulations!:D

We had a flawed plan this morning and the birds didn't follow the directions. We were too far from our planned interception, and there were too many hens to pull the gobblers to us. Hopefully tomorrow will be a different story.

I did find two shed antlers a few feet from each other as we were returning to the truck!:bouncy:

Took my nephew out yesterday.. Birds were on fire by 6:30.. By 7 he had a jake on the ground.. We got great video of them gobbling 10 FEET from the blind! Then his shot at 15 yards.. It was his first even turkey hunt and his first turkey.. A jake weighed 23.3 POUNDS! 4 inch beards and nubs for spurrs.. I have only seen 1 jake bigger. I shot one probably ten years ago that weighed 24lbs. We moved and set back up but no luck.. Oh well later this weeek will be my turn..
