Good Job Boyd! I got out this morning and was skeptical but was eager to get the day started! At first light I had two birds gobbling! Rt then it started pouring and I became very skeptical! At about 655 I heard a gobble behind me. At about 0700 my buddy looked out his side of the blind and said he saw the group! There were 6 hens a tom and a bird that I Was positive was a tom but didnt have a full beard! It looked broke off! It was too big to be a jake! EIther way they came into the field and my tom boy was struttin his stuff. At about 710 he made a fatal move and came within bow range! He strutted in to about 25 yards and my new Monster barked! He didnt even know what hit him, he just stood there. THen he turned and walked off, I was blown away, I thought I had missed him! My buddy said the arrow went into him perfect. Here he walked over the hill and fell in the brush! 21 lbs, 8.5 inch beard, and 7/8-1 inch spurs!

I got this bird at 11:00 this morning. Snuck up on him and 2 hens. We spooked the hens while he was looking the other way and when he got turned around he realized they was gone. He headed the way they went but he got about 150 yards from us and I told my buddy to start trying to call him back since he could'nt find them. Right when he started he gobbled right away and slowly worked his way back to within 25 yards. It was an awesome feeling to get that first bird. I never thought I'd kill one that big first:D That bird cost me alot of money by the time you figure my new T.C and getting a full strut gobbling mount:dizzy: http://www.ohiosportsman.com/photopost/data/500/mail.jpg

Thanks! I am at work rt now! I have to work till like 6 am! I am going to haul the mail and get to my spot and hopefully put the hurtin on another bird in the morning! We will see! Good luck!
Oh ya, what about a team name?? How about:
The Beard Snatchers
Tom Tumblers
The Thunder Chicken Chokers (haha My fav.)
JD and Kaiser - Congrats to the both of you. What a great start to the season! I am planning on going out in the morning tomorrow for a couple of hours before school.
I went out this morning and had a little excitement. A buddy and I had one hung up approximately 60-70 yards in front of us over a small ridge. He came pretty close, but would not pop his head over the ridge. We worked him for an hour and I finally had to leave to get to school. We are going back and setting up on him well before daylight tomorrow.
Also, are we a three man team? Might be a dumb question, but I thought there was four to a team? I vote for Tom Thumblers. HaHa.

Went out till 8:30 this morning. Absolutely had gobblin all around. Had one big tom 30 yards on roost when daylight started to break but he flew over on the other ridge with the hens. He never came over to my side. Had 8 jakes walk 10 yards from me. Probably won't get back out till saturday. Good luck guys.
MAO,
Decided Friday was going to be too good of weather to miss and took the day off to come back to Coshocton and hunt. Are the birds gobbling in the area?
Yea. They were hammering it yesterday morning hard. Today for some reason I did not hear much.

Big tom flew off roost the wrong way this morning. Maybe tomarrow he'll fly off the right way;) His beard is at least 12 inches so hopefully he'll be there again in the morning. Whats the rest of the team doing? Have'nt heard much lately.
I am yet to really get to spend much time hunting. I was out of state last weekend and have only gotten to hunt before school. I had to leave three gobbling yesterday. I plan to get out all weekend so hopefully I will have some better luck.

The last two days has been bad for me. I have missed the same tom two days in a row. I keep thinking 60 yards otta be an easy shot but I am wrong. So tomarrow morning I am getting to thirty yards of him on roost. Its alot easier to sneak up on them in this wet weather. I was somewhat lucky this morning a squad went by and made the coyotes start howling so he let out one gobble at 5:15 so I could at least get an idea of where he was at. Just did'nt come out in my favor:mad:
I had a real nice tom come to about 65 yards. He took a look at my jake/hen setup and turned and went the other way. I am hoping he is roosted in the same tree tonight. I will be there waiting on him in the morning. I am hoping for a birthday bird!!!

Had a big one coming today. Then I heard something over my to my right. Moved my head very slowly and would'nt you know... A mushroom hunter is headed my way:mad: I could'nt believe it. So I guess I'll have to keep at it.

Hey fellas! I have not really been hunting at all since the 2nd day of seasoN! I can only enter 1 bird rt? So if I dont kill another it isnt going to hurt us rt? I plan on getting out here in the next few days, but I dont know what to expect! How are we are standing in the contest?
Well, I am starting to get a little frustrated. I have heard birds off the roost, I then set up on them the next morning, and they change roosting locations. This has happend to me three times. I am hoping to catch a break sometime soon.

Good ? I have no idea.
Well, If black angus wasnt so expensive I would have shot one today. I had two longbeards coming in to my decoys and a heard of cattle saw them and came running to investigate and scared them off. I am not happy.

Today was not good. I was sneaking up on this big bird I've been trying to get and I get to around 75-80 yards away and I crawl to within 5 yards of a deer bedded down. She takes off blowing and making all kinds of noise in the woods. And would'nt you know ran right toward the birds and scared them off as well. Add to it being absolutely soaked it was not a good morning. Will be back after him in the morning.
