Can anyone give me a river report for the river in and around Marrietta? I am planning on going down in the a.m. I have heard 2 different reports, High water for one report, and great fishing for the other. I am not too worried about the rain, but if th water is blown out and muddied up I will stay closer to home.

I can't speak for the Ohio, but the Hocking around Athens is clean and at normal flows for the first time since March. If it is good, I would anticipate/guess the Ohio would be good. But, that's just a guess...:coco:

Wow, I checked the levels last night and thought Marrietta would be good. Went to Davola, all I could catch were Carp. Big Carp! They were actually hitting jigs, I swear I saw them coming to the surface sucking up whatever frye was in the river. I have not seen that much bait in one spot. It was at least 3" deep for at least 20yds of shoreline and I don't know how far out it went. I saw Crappie slamming the scholls of frye, Smallmouth plowing into them, White Bass, which i did catch 2 were also feeding on them. There were 2 guys on the rock using Minnies and I only saw them catch one or two, I am blaming it on all of the bait in the water. Ended up with about 12 fish, mixed bag. 4 Carp, 1 Crappie, 2 White Bass, 3 small Smallmouth, 1 largemouth, and a Sauger. Oh and I forgot about the big Drum so make it 13. I only have pics from cell phone of the 2 Carp.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w261/gotwipers/100_3081.jpg That big root ball was almost completely under water the last time I was down there. I know because my boat was VERY close to it!!
With the water down and this high pressure thing going on, I think maybe I should have taken the boat down. I will definitely be adding a note in the journal for today! I was targeting Hybrids, maybe they come in close to feed in early morning and evening when the water is this low. A guy beside me did catch 2 decent Hybrids in the whitewater though. Must not have been my day to catch one. I still had a good time, beautiful day for sure!:)

Cool, good you caught some fish, at least!
I've been to that dam 2 or 3 times...maybe it's just my timing, but I have never been impressed. I've fished the dam up at Malta on the Muskingum and we do much better up there. The water seems a little deeper up there. At Devola it seemed like everywhere we fished it was 2' deep! :irked:

Cream, you are right about the depth. It is very shallow, but there are some good holes that are about 7-9'. It's just when the water is down you can't get to them from the point. We always do better when the water is up. Here are pics of Mr. Bugle Lips.....
