I have never really shot with anyone outside of the family so I need to get some feedback on my shooting. Pistol at 17 yards. I am used to archery competition and expect that kind of accuracy. I feel like I have good form but the results just don't satisfy me. Family tells me that I am expecting too much from a pistol. Let me know what you think.
First 17 yards with 9mm 4" barrel. XD9 16 rounds...Little more than a second or two in between shots.

41 shots with the .22
The flyers are what get me. I "feel" like everything is the same.

With the 9mm, it looks like you are varying your sight picture slightly which is causing the group of lower center hits. It takes very little change in the position of the height of the front sight in the rear sight to make a big difference due to how close the 2 sights are to each other.
With the .22, it looks like more of a grip control/fire control issue. You may be varying how you pull the trigger or are doing something with your grip hand to move you point of impact to the left. Once again, if if the amount of shift is noticeable to your eyes, it is already going to make a considerable change in impact.

Are those shots off hand or from a rest?

Not bad..all in the 7 ring or better, at 17 yards off hand....
I'd say pretty good.....Now tweak it to 1-2" groups in the 10x!:D
Two years ago...Federal Sabot slugs out of my Remington 870 Wingmaster at 100 Yards. 2 Groups....I actually missed twice and moved a tad, with one hitting dead center in the 10 ring and one just to the right. Normally they are 1-2" high.
The 7th one....The far left/low hit was a Hornady SST.

Offhand at 17 yards. I guess the question is how accurate should I expect my pistols to be? The targets are 20 yard slow fire pistol targets.

9mm, breaking your wrist down, pushing forward,or dropping your hand.
22, not enough trigger finger, tightening finger grip as you shoot, trigger jerk or slapping.
