View Full Version : Factory string suppressor vs. STS

I am shooting an '08 Diamond Marquis. I love the bow, but there was just the slightest bit of hand shock. Compared to my old PSE I was shooting, it was shock-free, but it was there. The Marquis came with a factory-mounted string suppressor that was mounted to the cable guard. You can see it in this picture:

Out of curiosity, last week I removed that suppressor and instead mounted the original STS I had been using on my old PSE for about a year to see if the STS got rid of that hand shock. You can see the STS mounted here:

Problem solved! That took everything that I could feel out of the shot. I'm not sure if anyone else has a bow of any brand with a factory mounted suppressor similar to this, I know a few different brands use them, so I thought I would share this tidbit of information. If you still feel any shock or vibration, and want to try to stomp it out, you might want to try an STS or borrow one from a friend to try it and see if it works for you.

And no, coonie, I don't think they make STS's for recurves and longbows. ;):D

I will second The STS system. I installed the double stopper one on my bowtech allegiance last year and made a noticable difference on an already fairly quite bow ( I was able to remove my string leech's and it was still quiter than it was from the factory). They also prevent string slap if anyone out there has that problem(I know this is caused by either poor form or shooting to long of a draw length, but I have fell victim to it after a hundred or so arrows sent down range.. :nono:)

I the hand shock on the factory sts is cased by the density of the rubber on the stopper. The factory stoppers have a lot stiffer rubber than an aftermarket sts. On the Admirals, the factory sts tube is hollow, and from what I hear, that causes some vibration also.

Just my .02

BTW, nice grouping on the "Show us your Bows" thread...;)

Where Diamond/Bowtech put the stopper was the problem... They did the same thing in years past with some of their bows, putting them on the roller guard. Everyone was taking the sts off the roller guard and putting one behind the stabilizer. For 09 Bowtech took them off the roller guard and back where they should be. Not a smart idea by Bowtech............:tsk:

I know a local guy that shoots Hoyt and told me he prefers the STS over the factor also. He said it is much softer rubber.

I agree, the factory suppressor is harder than the STS.

And thanks on the group. After that group at 10 yards, I stepped back to 15 yards. :D:whistle:
