I have used calls for the past 20 years from all the major call makers but this year I tried something new. With the current state of our economy I elected to give my money to the small custom call maker. What a difference! It was a little more to go with WoodHaven this year but there sound is like no other I have ever heard. I bought a Cluck'n Purr pot and a Legend Series friction. Incredible and realistic sound. They should come running this year. :D:D :bouncy:

Iam kind of the same way... I hate to give money to the production call makers but sometimes it happens. :irked: Woodhaven is kind of mass produced imo. But the different levels of 'custom' seems to be a personal opinion, imo. custom to me is telling the custom call maker everything that you want, ie, type of soundboard, slate over glass, crystal, slate, etc. type of wood for the pot.

I'm sure you will be happy with the WH, they make a great call.

The important thing is you must sound like a turkey! Good luck out there!

YEP! Years ago the NWTF held their convention here in capitol city. I purchased a few diaphragm calls and found this little operations that goes by the name of Yellow Yelper. These calls have proven to be deadly!!!! I usually have trouble with off the shelf calls but found these very easy to use. They also seem to have their own tone. They now can be ordered for $6 off of their small humble website. Great post!

I had never bought anything but a "major company" call until this year. At the Expo, I picked up an Enticer Power Slate. It is a slate over glass call in a laminated wood pot, with matching laminated striker. I was playing with my calls a few days ago, and it sounds better than any other call I own. One commercial call that I have that I do think is great to have is a K&H Glass Hammer that I bought used from buckmasterJB last spring. It fills a niche for me: waterproof friction call. Why is that important? I can't use a diaphragm to save my life. I have tried and tried, I simply can not do it. The cool thing is that the Hammer striker will work wet on any friction call I own, so it was worth picking it up just for that.

If I think about it, I'll snap a pic of the Enticer I bought.

First off let me say this is an awesome looking call. My question is about it being slate and being waterproof. I've always assumed that if it is slate it is not waterproof.

A slate or any friction surface will work wet you just need the right striker. A plain wood striker won't work but a carbon or acrylic will. There are some wood strikers that have some "stuff" on the the tip that will play when wet. I think I know what it is now, I just haven't tried it yet. I make calls myself and believe me I have tried them all.

is it waterproof because it's not made of wood?? it looks like acrylic...there was a couple guys selling acrylic strikers on another forum and i've seen them on ebay too..if they are waterproof i may pick one up and try it..

Read a little closer, the custom call is not waterproof, or in other words, will not work wet with that wooden striker. The waterproof call I was talking about in that post was the K&H Glass Hammer. The waterproof striker with that call will work on all my slate/friction calls wet.
