I dont freeze mine anymore.I dry them and then vacume seal them. When you take them out soak them in water in there just as fresh as when you picked them.

Yep, a big mushroom hunter here. Hunt mostly around Columbus but every MAy 1 we head to Lake Hope area for 3 day hunting trip. Found some morels last year that were over 10".

Morels are great. I hope it's half as good as last year & I'll be happy. I only know of a couple spots & every year I search new areas. I wish they grew in more spots. One of the joys of spring - like trout & turkeys. Glad to see this new forum for them. I'll post when I start finding them.

I personally haven't tried it, but I hear they are much better rehydrated in milk. Hopefully I'll find enough this year to give that a try.

Yes I do, and I can't wait. I have found them this early in Nelsonville in the spring of '99. I know this because I cooked them for my wife and that is the spring we meet. ( and she say's that I don't remember things.) I found a large patch of gray's/blacks.

I did some casual looking yesterday. The woods is just not close to being green enough but I have a gut feeling we may find shrooms about 2 weeks earlier than normal this year. remember, shrooms pop when apple trees, dogwoods, may apples blooming. the multiflora rose are leafed out.
This year when you do find shrooms, look around at other flora and fauna and take some notes in writing.

Me and my husband mushroom hunt, last year during turkey season, unfortunately no turkey but we found over 2,300 mushrooms ! YUMMY
We also dry them on a non metallic screen so the spores will float through the air, we use a mesh bag as we are collecting the mushrooms. After they are dry like a potato chip we just put them in a brown paper bag and put in the refrigerator. Awesome! You can even strain the broth after you rehydrate with cheesecloth and make an awesome gravy for maybe your backstraps you got last year?!!!!!!!!!!

A friend in northern Vinton county found 1 dozen black morels in just one area. It was high on the hill on the North side but open to sunlight. I think the incoming cold weather will put a stop on things, but I'm no expert on mushrooms.

I'm getting this second hand but did see pictures. A friends girlfriend found 26 black morels Friday near Bellfontaine. He went Sunday and didn't find any.

Yep, those ramps will do that for you. I need to get to my ramp spot. I have an area at my club that the ramps are everywhere in a 4 or 5 acre area. I could pick a ton of em if I wanted to. Have you ever tried making ramp powder Buckmaster?

We don't usually dehydrate ours, just put them in a brown paper sack and fold the top over and they last years in the refrigerator, when you rehydrate them, just soak them in water and don't throw away the broth they were soaking in, strain it through a coffee filter or cheesecloth and make gravy or soup. check out the site teammorel.com I think you can find some neat things on there.

Here is the how that I was told to freeze them. Soak them of coarse, pat drie them dip them in egg or not. Then flour them individually set them on cookie trays and freeze them. Once frozen bag them or vacum pack them. Oh yea ad some four to the bag first. They should stay good for a while. I have never found enough to try it, they get eaten to quick.
