On Thursday, 10/16, I went on my first bona fide steelhead fishing trip. No luck. I drifted single salmon eggs on an egg hook on 4-pound line. I had a splitshot about 3 feet up the line and a tiny slip-on foam float about 8 inches above the hook to help reduce snags but still keep the egg near the bottom. The float was my own idea; maybe it's a bad one.

I tried the Vermilion first in the metropark just upstream from Route 2. It was a raging torrent from all the rain a few days earlier. So, I drove a little farther east to the Rocky River and fished in the metropark there. The Rocky was not as high as the Vermilion; it was totally wadeable in most areas. The visibility was only a few inches, though.

It's true what they say. Getting your first steelhead is a lot of work!

Fished East of the state line on friday, fish were scattered, small flies and light line. Today fished Ohio side only one landed. Some fish are in but not in great numbers. tight lines to all and hope you get the fish of a lifetime. :D
