I just noticed that this site allows advertising from Game Farms!! Has this been the norm? Is this acceptable to the people that frequent this site? I guess I have never noticed before but the ad entitled "Dakota" caught my eye because the deer looked pretty impressive. I clicked it to see what was going on in North Dakota or South Dakota and I was surprised to find that they are located in OHIO!!! A fricking SHOOTING PRESERVE!! I know times are challenging in business right now and every dollar is important but I think this sucks!! I am more disapointed than surprised. I am curious how the readers feel about this.

Got a link to the site that was advertised here? We don't always control all the inventory that comes our way. Some of it comes via network affiliates.

i think i've seen what your talking about on the outdoor channel also. Dakota outfitters or something like that. they had some guy and a lady at one of those places i think its in SE ohio from what they said, supposedly they're good friends with the guy that owns the preserves. but anyways they had some nice deer out there but they were taking em with rifles:tsk: the hunt they're were doing was in october of 08 i think.

Steve it was www.dakotawhitetails.com (http://www.dakotawhitetails.com) It was in the center of the home page this morning. Thanks for being interested. Obviously its not important to some. To me, that is not "hunting"

i do not like pen hunting either but i am sure it takes alot to keep this site going. ohio guy , if you are that concerned about the finances of this site then why don't you become a sponsering member and donate some money?

With all due respect Ohio Guy you use this site for free. You might consider becoming a sponsoring member.

Good job Ohio Guy! This is the only site I pay for even though I don't have to. I think it's worth it.

Go the the tool bar at the top. Click on "User CP". A tool bar on the left will have a list of choices near the bottom is "paid subscriptions" you can sign up there.

I just realized you can click on "sponsoring memeber" under my name and it'll take you to the registration page.

In all actuality everyone is a sponsoring member just by visiting the site.. When Steve solicits advertisers or they ask him for stats.. He provides all the activities that we as "members" do. How many times a banner is loaded, how many visits a day, how many banner clicks per day, Etc. So in a way the entire membership is generating sponsorship as a whole.. Regardless of the members “sponsoring” status either paid for status or generated.

A “Sponsoring Member” is just that. A member who has paid Sponsorship to the site. All be it less that an Advertising member those advertising members are indeed also sponsors. Without the generated traffic of members sponsorship through advertising would be nil.

The point I am trying to make here is. If a Member or a group of members as a whole. Feel an “advertising sponsors” ads are in direct conflict with the general consensus of the members. Then the afore mentioned advertisement must be evaluated for effectiveness to it’s targeted audience.. It wouldn’t do Steve a bit of good to advertise women’s feminine hygiene products here. Sure the sponsorship would pay out for the contracted amount of time but as a whole members wouldn’t click of visit the advertisement which would drive down the supporting stats for traffic. It wouldn’t do Steve nor the Advertiser a bit of good.

The status of a members paid VS non paid sponsorship is a moot point, when evaluating an advertisements effectiveness towards a target audience.

Now back to the topic of the post. Should the owner of site draw a line on advertising? "Preserves"? Feeders? Mineral suppliments? (not saying they are equal, just some are opposed to them.)

I'd vote that he should allow the advertising that he wishes. We members of this site can vote with our dollars if we want to use the products or not. If we don't buy it won't pay to advertise.

Does accepting advertising dollars condone the products sold? I guess that depends on how "important" the money is. If thats the case are we guilty by association? That would suck...I dont want to be associated with pen hunting. I am not "too good" for it I just think it is disgusting!!How about PETA, if they want to be on this site thats ok just because we dont join? Any attention is advertising good or bad. I think you should have the backbone to be on one side of the line or the other. 2cents

Why is everyone so "hypersensitive" these days?? If you dont like pen hunting then dont click on the site and dont book a trip. Just enjoy the site for what it is and leave it at that. Do you walk down the street and have people throw garbage at you and say "there's a member of that wicked OS.com site that advertises pen hunting". I dont think so. Lets all calm down for pete sake.

Oh, and btw, I do not support pen hunting, so dont reply that I support that kind of thing.

Wow, what a great answer, I suppose the same may apply to reading this thread.....its a discussion not an argument.

Let's take a vote on what we consider hunting, what we think is ethical, etc. When everyone agrees with their votes on the things that is considered hunting, ethical, etc., we can then let Steve know to solicit that business to advertise on this site. This is the only way I can see it as being fair.

Yes, it's called capitalism. It's what the demand is and what the market will bear at the time.

Since when does it make a difference to peta where and how animals are killed...Guilty by association? Wrong place to play that card...

With that, it's Steve's call

What? I am not refering to what PETA may think, none of us would care, at least I dont think any of us would. I was asking if it would be acceptable for PETA to purchase advertising on this site. Would it be welcome.

The ad you guys are referring to comes to us from an advertising network that we are in. We don't get much say in what does or doesn't get run on it.
