Through the season, I was just skinning and freezing. Past couple of days I started thawing, and fleshing some hides.

I should be done in a few days. After doing some coon, I really want to try boarding some next year.

Do any of you coon guys prefer wood?

rats, fox, and coyotes = wire
coon and mink = wood
no need to pin the tails out either. i got top lot last year on coon at the fha sale. coon where stapled on the base only. tails hang free. bottom lip removed and front legs trimmed flush.

wire is fine but it may cost you a size on the "close ones".

i also hang the k-9's by their tail. i was told it makes the fur stand tall when drying. not real sure if it makes that much difference but i do it.

your stuff looks real good!

i like the look of boarded coon. and you seem to pick up some length using wood as well! i use a 7 1/2" board and a 7" for the smaller sized

You did a nice job on your fur.Try the wood and you'll never go back to the wire. :bouncy:

Do you salt the hides to keep them from rotting?

salt is a no no. they will not rot if fleshed correctly!

nice job on your fur . never put mink on wire . never.

coon , wood is definetly better as you can gain your self to the next size quite often . trimming out all the nose cartlidge helps too.

wood for the others , well if you've got the extra money , go for it . i've never seen where fox, coyote, skunk, possum, looked any better put on wood .
muskrats , just like coon using wood you can gain a little length on some to make the next size.

otter and weasel should be put on wood always .

Wood is what I prefer. I put everything up on wood.
