I have jumped a deer in a very unusual place while I was fishing in Canada. We were muskie fishing and we were about 1/2 a mile away from any large land that could sustain deer or large animals for that matter. While we were fishing around an island that was maybe 40 yards by 40 yards an acre and mostly rocks we kicked up a white tail. We watched the deer swim and it made it all the way to the main land. It was an amazing sight that we just could not believe.

I see deer smack dab in the middle of Kent State's campus all the time. They move in at night and feed on the countless tons of acorns and all the grass. I also saw a deer while fishing in Canada which was on an island that was probably 100 sq yd, so bigger than edaniel's experience, but it was still cool to see it on an island, far away from any portions of mainland.

I worked a few years as a Crop Insurance Adjuster. I was working a soybean claim in Stark County in February. The field was along rt 241 a busy road across from the main entrance to the Canton/Akron airport. There are businesses on each side of this field. I pulled into the drive and got out of the truck. Just walked a little ways and 2 120+ class bucks jumped out of a small clump of weeds not a 100 feet from the road, right in front of the airport entrance.:dizzy:

The deer wasnt bedded down, but a couple of years ago we were going fishing up on erie and we seen a doe half way drowning out in the wide open water. we pulled up next to her and my dad grabbed her by the head and we drug her back to the shore. she kicked and was going crazy the whole time. when it hit the shore it never looked back and ran full speed off into the distance. definantly the craziest place ive ever seen a deer

Not me personally...but a friend of the family and her grandson jumped a buck out of a large corrugated drain pipe. Nearly scared them to death.

Funny thing this came up today. A coworker and I were headed to a meeting on Morse/Hamilton Road area. I let him drive so I could scan the fields since I used to hunt over there. A nice sized buck was dead leaning across the base of a road sign at 161 and Hamilton. I got out to take a gander and low and behold he jumped up :yikes: and I had to squeeze tight to keep everything in:mischeif: Boy he was nice...probably a 150ish deer. I miss hunting that area:(

I was at the Wurtemberg VFD Gun Show last March when 7 deer ran thru the parking lot at noon. Wurtemburg is adjacent to Ellwood City Pa. next show March 7.
I remember seeing a bedded doe in the Mosquito Goose refuge muzzleloader hunt in 24" of snow. It weighed about 35lb and curled up, I though it was a fox sleeping. too small to shoot.

I was driving from Toledo to Wooster and I saw a 120" buck walking in the corn field about 150 feet behind the Fin,Fur and Feather on the Saturday of the second gun season this year. Parking lot was full and I am sure more than a few guys there would have loved to have a chance at this buck.

Last year we were playing a weekend series in Tennessee. The school is in the mountains close to the Cumberland Nat'l forest. The left field fence was close to a dorm on this big hill that butted up to some woods. 5 deer came strolling out of the woods across the dorm's lawn, down the hill, stopping every so often to check things out, well they kept coming towards the fence, then were right outside the fence just watching the game for about 15 mins or so, and then just continued on their way to the woods that were behind a building in left center field. I was sitting in the bullpen, so it was fun to watch, never seen anything like it.

There's a spot in wood county. It's a 1 acre nast little thicket wit a drainage ditch running through it about an 1/8 mile to a RR track. The ditch goes under the tracks. It never fails to either run deer under that patch or kick them up under it.

when I was in the military at Ft Benning GA we were doing M-16 Live fire on a 400 meter range at pop up targets.. 30 soldiers firing rounds in volley for half a day.. The deer were accustomed to rifle fire.. They started walking across down range at 300 meters without a care in the world. This was about noon we had been firing since sun up. The range NCO called a cease fire while range personnel went to run them off.

I have one more. My wife plays in a summer softball league in Bedford. if anyone knows where Bedford is, it's basically a suburb of Cleveland. Basically all neighborhood. Well, every night, right after sunset a doe and two fawns would come out of a little wooded drainage on the other side of the outfield fence and feed in the grass just on the other side... all while people are standing about 20 yards from them in the outfield, playing ball.
I have also seen deer in neighborhoods in Cleveland Heights. They feed on the grass and flowers.

Strangest place I have jumped one is in my neighborhood. I hae told this story before. I live in SW Canton and I just crosed over the tracks to maryland/ivydale ave from navarre road and jumped a nice 8 point that was bedded down right by the tracks. He ran down ivydale sliding all over theplace and then cut through a yard and went into the field behind fischers.

I had a half rack literally run into the side of my house then run out front in the street, slip and fall down, then took off around the block. I lived in findlay right in the middle of town with no woods anywhere near. My brother just missed pulling in and seeing it. Instead I was accused of hitting the sauce a little early till I showed him the hoof print in the yard.

My buddy saw a spike buck when he took his car for service at a dealership. He said the salesmen were going nuts cause the buck was slamming against the new cars in the parking lot. This happened last season in Detroit.

I drank a bunch of BEER the night before it was day 4 of deer gun season. I woke up late it was day light out. I went to the hunting ground and was walking up an old logging road it was a switch back meaning it went up to the right then to the left then to the right you get the point. Well I went to the right then to the the left then I stop and RIP A HUGE BEER FART not 4 ft to 5 feet to my left off the hill a little jumped up a big doe. I just stood there and smiled.
That will tell you how tight they will bed down during gun season.
I tried That trick the rest of the day with poor results.

CWD caused by baiting.

I hit a basket rack buck one block west of the University of Cincinnati. He ran into a yard and just looked at me. I had to replace a fog light on my month old Ford Escape. I call 'em "ghetto deer".
One fall afternoon a few years ago, we went over to my parents house for a fall cook out. As we walked out the back door onto their raised deck (about 6-7 foot off the ground at the edge) a doe blasted out from under the deck from all the thumping. It looked like she had been there all day. I always look under there when I walk by now but have never seen any since.

That's crazy. I lived there for 4 years, 3 of which were within a few blocks west of UC. I never thought I'd see deer in there.

I jumped one out from underneath a farmers truck next to my camper, he had moved one of his pickup trucks near my camper...I guess the truck had been there for maybe a month, I roll into the camper one afternoon from hunting in the morning and out comes a young deer from under the truck....I seen it coming out from underneath it and thought it was a neighboring dog, finally I realized it was a deer and kinda thought I was dreaming or something...was really odd.
I later talked to the farmer and he said that a mommy had got hit on the rd (dead) a week or so back and she had a young one with her most of the time..that explained it all.

Jumped one once that was bedded down next to a backhoe in the morning. Must have been keeping warm from the heat of the motor. I have no idea.
Also last year I found a dead buck less than a quarter mile of the shoe down here in Columbus. Found him in a little patch of weeds along the Olentangy when I was fishing. It was a nice buck too, probably 120" or so. Here is a pic of it. It must have gotten hit by a car.

Hey bro, don't forget the time you and I were helping dad in the woods out front? My Mom was doing yard work in the back yard in the area that CJD3 mentions above (the deck area). Well she came running out front yelling "Boy's come here quick!" Thought something happened! Turns out a doe at some point durning the winter went up under this same deck to either bed down or eat the Ivy. There is a set of steps going up to the deck and at some point this doe either slipped or rolled down the hill and got it's neck stuck where the steps meet the ground, of course it was dead.
I have seen them in Mentor on Rt2 in area's that have ton's of compaines / buildings there along Rt 2 and only a small strip of a tree line.
Also in Mentor there is a Gander Mountain store. Like Coonskinner I also saw a bunch of deer feeding along the side of the store during day light hours.
