its awesome to see more in more people going out shed hunting this year. also great to see people having trail cam pics of a buck n then to find there sheds. i had that happen to me this year with a 9 pointer i was hoping would make it through this year to next year because he will be a nice deer next year. but when i came across his antlers it was the greatest feeling knowing i saw this deer 3 or 4 times during season and now i got his sheds : )

Posting this for my dad, he was pretty amped about finding this and I didn't want to start a new thread just to post the pic. He found this hanging on a Maple tree branch that was close to his feeder. He said it had to have happened last night, but I put a tape on it and it was over 5" b/w the G2 and 3. He is goin back up to try and find the other side tomorrow. great pics by the way.:)

Last year I had a set that scored 192 in the contest and don't think anybody even noticed them. I wish I would have waited about 2 weeks later because then I found a set that scored around 205. So I'm sure somebody will find some bigger than this set I entered in the contest. As far as as they lay pics WIFE won't let me take the camera out of the house.
JD I noticed them!! Congrads on this years finds!! They have my vote!!

These are some great sheds...What are the rules in the contest? Ive heard of people actually going into areas or properties they have no permission to be on to shed hunt....Whenever i see lots of big sheds and no big bucks killed..that leads me to beleive there are some suspicious activitities goin on...How come all the big sheds but no big bucks killed? :D
I dont find any big sheds cause i kill the big buck in my area that i can hunt.;)

big deer dont get big by getting killed but i do agree you would think that if i had a deer sporting antlers like that I would have a trail pic of him. I have heard of alot of guys that buy or have friends that grow fenced deer and get there sheds that way. And also a nother thing to think about is that there a lot of people that will let you look for sheds and will not let any hunting

As I have stated in posts before I have one of the best areas to hunt in the two counties I hunt in. Only problem where the big ones spend their time I can't hunt. They are strictly against hunting but shed hunting they have no problem with me doing that. I ask them every year if they have changed their mind yet and I get the same answer every year. I guess the 160 inch buck I killed this year was'nt big enough.
JD. NO its not!! Next year I expect a 180 out of you!:)

Ok JD, not to hijack, but im curious. Are you saying you found a 205, 192 and 188 inch set WITHOUT any kind of spread? You do realize that with a modest 17 inch spread that you could have the WORLD RECORD typical whitetail running around! Enlighten me on this.

I believe he said they were scored giving a 20 inch spread. Definately world class. I myself have wondered where JD has been, and what he has been picking up, since now, in my opinion is the best time to put numbers on the board. Personally Im stuck on nine this year and have blanked out the last four trips.

Those are some exceptional sheds but after everything I see and hear I am skeptical if they are from a wild deer. I could get several sets from a friend that are from pen deer. Has anyone seen a trail cam photo of the deer. I for one like JD's sheds since he has some trail camera photos of the deer before he got the sheds. I don't know how to exactly police this, but how does one go about proving they are sheds from a wild deer.
If they are from a wild deer, congrats Bassnbucks.

Good quaestion..How do we know if these bucks are huntable? I know some guys that shed hunt bucks that live in areas that do not allow hunting..thats why the bucks get so big...
Well..here's my pathetic bunch i found today..The Big 8 my buddy found...I found the matched set..double brow buck..All sheds came from huntable land that gets hammered..Tats why day so small...Oh well..got some exercise on a nice spring day..had fun.:D
I cant compete with you guys...I live in a state that grows scrubs.:D

If someone want's to make themselves feel awsome by putting some high fence sheds or whatever on here, than I guess that is there thing. But as for policing this contest or having someone prove where they are from, come on. I believe last years winner got a hat. Just a friendly contest. I don't shed hunt for a hat, and Im sure most others don't either. Hopefully some more big sheds are found.

This is from the same buck the last 2 years, he is an awesome 6 point. The shed on the right side is actually a break off from this year. He has a 12" G-2.

This 6 point side is from a buck that I will be targeting this year. It scores 74" as it is.

Definitely not a deer farmer. I watch and scout for these bucks on a year round basis. It's a lot like detective work, and a matter of putting together a puzzle. There are good bucks nearly everywhere, some places have a few more than others.
As far as shed hunting goes, I put in a lot of time and cover a lot of miles. This year was really tough for shed hunting. I think all of the bucks spent more time in those 160 acre corn stubble fields due to having to spend more time digging thru ice and snow for food. It is nearly impossible to figure out which field they lose their racks in, let alone trying to find one in a corn stubble field. Heck, the whole field looks like antler. Another thing that made it especially hard was all the high water we had up here this spring. All of the creekbottoms have been under water for virtually the last month and a half, particularly the ones that I hunt. I know darn well there were some good bucks left over in some areas, but who knows where they shed at. If some of those bucks lost their horns in the creek bottoms, they are gone and never to be found.

ill bet there is some bend in creeks where all the antlers gather and become tangled during the flooding. im going to look for that spot this weekend.

I got to thinking. I wonder if this sucker couldn't be an escapee from Double D.. We're only about 6 miles from them. I should call them tomorrow and ask if they have had a muley of a sika escape. Probably wouldn't say so if they did though.

Sika's are typically from Maryland ( here in the United States ). They live in swamps, Marshes, some woodlands and ag. fields.
You may be on to something with the Double D, isn't that a high fence place?
If you call and ask if one got lose don't tell them your name, they may want to charge you for it. :D
