FAN-
The Wayne National Forest will be hosting three public meetings to gather input on the Revision Process. These meetings will focus on developing a range of alternatives for the new Plan.
I recently attended the same type of meetings in Indiana for the Hoosier National Forest. The meeting was very heavily attended by groups opposed to ANY active forest management that would create and maintain grouse habitat. The Meetings will break up the attendees into small groups and each group will develop a series of alternatives based on the group's feeling of what should occur. The anti-management attendees will spread out into eahc group. It is very important that we and other groups supportive of management attend these meetings so that the Wayne gets an accurate view of what the public wants to see on the Forest.
Critical components that need to be in the Plan include:
Maintenance of early successional forest habitat (grouse habitat)
Use of even-aged forest habitat management (shelterwood and clearcutting)
Provisions for all forest users, including hunters, examination of the impact of any new Plan on hunting recreational opportunities
Again, I would strongly encourage anyone that cam make it to attend these meetings. Please let me know if you have any questions of if I can be of any assistance.
