me and my friends are going for doe first. For me it accomplishes two things, one it gets all the bugs out of my system, and two helps to level the buck to doe ratio where we hunt. But dont get me wrong if a good buck strolls by on his way to the field WHACK!

A nice doe would be good for the freezer. I can hold out for a buck until later on in the season. If it gets to late in the season I wouldn't mind taking another doe. It sure would help the meat supply.
Good luck

I hunt a farm in a urban zone. I can shoot a doe and not worry about fillings tags and such 'til gun season. That's when I concentrate on a buck. But, if a nice one came by in the morning...

I am out of venison so I'll take the first chance I get at a doe or mature buck. No bucks smaller than 8pt though.

Any antlerless deer that give me the opportunity, i will tkae the shot and be butchering the rest of the day. As for bucks, I will be a slight bit more "choosy". Spikes and forks get to walk, but 6's, 8's and up are in the fair game area. Good luck to everone else who is going after their trophy of choice this season. You are right, URBAN zones are the way to go!

I well be out for the meat. I well not shot a youngster. But the first good size doe that comes my way well be in trouble. If an older buck comes my way he well get the same treatment. :D Good luck to all.:)

Last year I passed up does looking for that big buck. Never did see a shooter. I caught heck from my wife everytime I told her I let a doe go by. We usually eat at least 2 deer a year. Ended up taking a small doe at the end of the season. Ran out of venison before summer. I guess I better take the first doe I see, and get my wife off my back ;)

No luck this morning, but at least I got out and enjoyed a beautiful opening day. Nothing beats an opening morning trying to find where you put your treestand without the flashlight, but I made it in quiet.

Gonna catch a nap and then get back out tonight. Good luck to the rest of you guys this season.

If I was back hunting I'd shoot the first antlerless deer I saw. If I saw a second or third I'd shoot it too (we can kill a bunch of them in SC). I'd hold out on the antlered deer though.

If I was home I'd hold out for a P&Y class buck.

I hear you Thunder, the antlerless deer in my area go down since I am hunting Urban land. I just hope to get one within the first week of the season. Then it will be jerky time!

I am planning on taking the first nice sized doe that walks by so I can concentrate on the bucks.

I agree with you Spitter ! I am after the same type of situation. Nail a doe or a yearling early, then concentrate on that buck you've always wanted.

My friend took a shot at one the other night that he claims would have scored in the 150's easy (8 pointer). Found the arrow (w/bright red blood) and no deer 3 days later. I think he made a bad shot and hit it in the leg or caught the very front portion of the chest. Too bad, but a lot of us have all had a lost animal, it's a risk that we all take as hunters, whether it be with a bow, gun or X- Bow.
