Nice find! I am heading down to my property on Saturday to look around a little. Hopefully I find some.

Where did you find them (bedding areas, feeding sources)?

I found the sets right beside there beds. Others were on trails from beds to food source. There is 10-15 inches of snow in the woods around here and all the deer are pretty much traveling the same trails so I just get on heavily traveled trails and go. I walked for 4 hours today. I jumped 2 bigger bucks still carrying both sides yet. One was a giant now , so I hope I did'nt run them out so I can find his. I was hoping this snow would stay on the ground longer but it sounds like next week its gonna be gone.

Good job. I went for a long walk in the woods 2 days ago and searched about 100 snow beds and found zero antlers! Maybe they aren't dropping up here yet.

Dang, awesome finds right there! :yikes:

Were those two sets together or were the sides dropped in different areas?

the dark areas you see on the top set is velvet. There is alot on the back side. I plan on looking some tomarrow afternoon then when I get home I'm going to mount them on a fake skull. The pics I have on here does not show them very well. Beams are 26 and 26 2/8 and also has a 23 inch spread so it'll look better when I get them mounted.

Couple questions for ya JD,

South facing slopes, crp, thicket or hardwood beds?

how many sheds did you find last year?

what are your best sheds?

and do you have a concentrated food source?

those are really great sheds and 7 in one day is amazing. also Ide say those two sets are twins or related, they have the same tine and beam structure if you ask me.

Congrats

The sets I found yesterday were on a south facing slope in a woods. Corn field was 75-100 yards below them. There is also a bean field on the other side of the corn field as well. Which my corn pile and camera is on the edge of that field. Last year I found 36 sheds. Year before that I think was right around 40 as well. I had my wife drop me off at one place and had to call her to pick me up sooner than planned cause I found 13 horns on one hillside.:bouncy: That day I found a total of 18 horns. Just one of those lucky days. I don't know where you are at but here deer herd up and usually bucks stick together now and you just gotta find them. I have it pretty easy this time of year cause I'm in the excavating buissness and its to cold and to much snow on the ground to do much so I go and drive around every morning for an hour and watch deer. So between having four cams out and me running around every morning I think I know all the deer in my area. Biggest set grossed 205.

:yikes: WOW what a day. I was hoping to see more of the snow gone but I will make an attempt this weekend.

I like to look why the snow is on the ground. Easier to find their beds. Plus this snow is so hard there laying right on top of it.;)

guess I figured they would be burries by the snow, but that makes sense to me thank for the pointer.

Plus I forgot to add the split on his right G-3 so he ended up grossing 170 2/8. I have pics of him somewhere in velvet but I can't find them on my computer.

I've been doing some shed hunting the past couple of days with no luck yet. What are my best odds for finding some? Real thick brush? Bedding areas? Feeding areas? Trails with rub lines?

I appreciate the help! I've been concentrating on the bedding areas and thicker brush, thinking that the branches would stand a chance of knocking off a loose rack and it would be left sitting on the trail.... my daughter and I are dying to find some!

Also, I seem to be noticing several "new" rubs that I can't remember seeing earlier in the season. I always thought that the rubs were more from pre rut and rut. Do they freshen up or make new rubs when they are getting ready to drop their head gear?

Okay, here is a follow up to my own question(s). I spent another couple of hours in the woods this morning looking around. I found brand new scrapes and rubs all over one particular area. I didn't realize that the deer freshened up scrapes and rubs this time of year. Do they make rubs trying to loosen up their antlers? I put my camera over one of the scrapes with some rubs in the background, so we'll see what shows up on it.

I'm determined to find the sheds off of the 8pt and 10pt that I got on camera this winter. I'd love to find both sets and mount them up with a picture framed below it from the trailcam to give me motivation for next season!

I don't think they try to knock their horns off by rubbing trees. Maybe somebodyelse knows more about that kind of stuff than me. I just think when a big buck sheds one side he tries to knock the other side off with his foot cause he does'nt like all that weight on one side.
