I just got back from what it was my last day at my job. I was laid off today.
This economy is no joke and is taking its toll on us. Unemployent compensation is at a record high already and this is not the worst time yet.
Be prepared because it can happen to you. Not that I wish that on anybody but many of us are not safe anymore. Do your best and save a much as you can.

I know I'm just a kid but I know the feeling. I worked on a farm for 4 years in high school and then this summer worked for a company building pole barns. It was good work and made good money, and then went to work one day and at the end of the day they told us that they weren't going to have work for a week or so. The very night before I had signed my loan applications and financial aid forms and was planning on exactly 3 more weeks of 40 hours of work. I was very discouraged and felt like crap. It wasn't that I didn't do my job right or that the economy was as terrible then (last week of July). It was just that they didn't have the jobs lined up (and actually are still building barns in the snow). When I got home I was pretty ticked and really didn't know how to feel. Luckily and because of networking and a good reputation and friend I was able to go to work the next day for more money and worked 47 more hours that week (tue-sat). I ended up with a better job, made more money, and probably will have a job with the same company next year.
It was a frustrating few hours between jobs. I was looking at adding a few hundred bucks to a college loan which I didn't want to do, and man after having a job that not every high school graduate can have it was a blow to the pride too. But I don't know what it's like to have a family or a job (I don't know what your situation is) and be out of work, and with the economy worse, I doubt you'll have a job by tonight but hope you can.
Take the chance to spend some time with your loved ones, hunt and do some shed hunting. Keep your head up.
f nothing else, our hero Barry Obama will fix it soon! Probably in the next few hours...

Thank you guys for the support. I kinda predicted this with things going the way they are. I have had this feeling for the last months and I have been through this before so I guess that's why I am not mentally down. At least for now.
I also had been job hunting for the last few monts for the same reason. The way I see it it's not the end of the world and there are worse things in life than this.
Thanks,
Bene

I also get laid off every year. This year happened to be a moth early, which was good for hunting, bad for extra spending cash. Luckily, There are alot of cash paying things out there to do, or I'd be in trouble. For starters, check out private contractors who plow snow. Alot of those guys pay good cash for drivers or shovelers. Keeping them off the books saves them alot of money themselves.

Thank you ALL for the thoughts and prayers.
I received the best call ever today to find out that they are offering me the position I applied a month ago. Yeah that's right only a day after I got laid off. I am soooooooooo happy you have no idea.:bouncy:
Even better I will be leaving MD and moving to PA to be closer to my Ohio farm.
Don't ever give up. Everything happens for a reason and you have to be a believer.;)

Congrads Bene. Glad to here you are moving a little closer to the place that gives you the hunting that you like. Does this mean that you will be able to make it to the Deer and Turkey Expo?

Man I could use a phone call like that! Back in July a gave up a pretty decent job to go work for a local steel plant that paid a little better and has been the bread and butter for many in my extended family including my grandpa who retired after 42 yrs. They were so busy back then that they couldnt keep up so I felt that as long as I worked my butt off I could set myself up to buy that ring and a house that my girlfriend of 4 yrs is probably lookin for. As my luck would have it though, business took a nose dive due to the company's dependence on the auto market and oil drilling industry. Just as I was starting to think things were going to work out I got the big call into the office. They didnt even lay me off, they terminated me along with the other new hires that were still considered "probationary". As much as they tried to convince me that they would be calling me back to work as soon as possible, I'm not too confident with the way our economy is. Worst part about it is the company I left in july is in the building supply business and, as much as they would love to, is reluctant to hire me back because the housing market sucks. No easy task finding a decent job out there right now either. I hope to god it all happened for a reason but I sure as hell aint figured it out yet.
