I have 3 German Shorthair pointers that are in need of a young hunter for the youth pheasant hunts at Berlin Wildlife area!
This is the first year that I haven't had anyone to take either weekend and while I usually go out and find a father and child(yep there are girl hunters too!) I thought I'd make the offer to members of this site first. It's a great time for the kids, it really improves their chance for a bird. (even hooks some future bird hunters :D)
Anyone interested just reply or PM me and we'll work it out.

I cannot believe you have not had a response yet. Kids today go right to deer hunting. I myself was introduced to upland hunting at a youth hunt many years ago.
Good Luck

Yeah I thought I would have found a taker quicker than this. Kids and dads just about jump out of their shoes to get someone with a bird dog. It makes a huge difference in the chance to get a good shot. It's really cool watching them when they're kid gets their first bird. :D
I wish I'd given my number to this guy I took out with his kids the one day last year. It was kind of a damp day and they just came out to squirrel hunt not knowing the pheasants were released. I took them out with my old dog for about 1 1/2 hrs and got them points on a woodcock and 2 pheasants. They both missed the first one twice but they got the second. It was very cool!
I'll keep bumping this through the second hunt and hopefully fiond someone who want's to go.

Not worried at all about the youth hunts. These things are a world apart from the normal weekend stockings. I won't hesitate to take my daughter when she's a little bigger. not as crowded and the kids are much more careful than the adults about their shot selection. A number of guys I know do this to help get the kids into birds. It's a really great time for the kids and enjoy it as well. Nothing like a happy kid with their first rooster!
Now come the regular season I won't get near this place till after lunch or maybe even not till Sunday.
I do have a nice little spot at another area that gets birds that is usually pretty quiet though. It's kind of like my better grouse spots, I'll NEVER tell! ;)

Well they're talking showers but hopefully thill hold off till afternoon. Pheasants forever will have a tent at Berlin wildlife area in the dog training area(even in the rain I'm told!). This should be a great time for the kids if the weather holds.
Just a reminder to everyone birds are stocked for the youth hunts both this weekend AND next. Get your kids out and have fun! :)
I'll be at Berlin by 7:30 in a blue Dakota. If you've got a youngster look me up! Myself and others will be there to provide the kids a chance to hunt over a trained dog.

After 3006 give me the idea I drove around after duck hunting and ask hunters if they wanted me to work my dog for them, all anwsers were "NO" which I couldn't believe. The best that I can figure is these people were unaware how much a dog help with pheasants and just went out because the pheasants were stocked.
I caught a bow hunter stalking a pheasant yesterday, he drew back and was holding then the pheasant flushed. He had no idea me and my buddy were around walking back from the blind. This guy was at least 40, hmm.......poachers.

Well, I asked about 5 different groups if they wanted help from a good flushing dog. All said now. One even commented that a lab is a waterdog and they are no good for upland. Not sure if he was really seriouse or just pulling my chain. Couldn't believe that no one would take me up on my offer. Maybe they were afraid tha the kids would shoot the dog or something. Just don't get it?
I just ran the dog for a little while in the dog training area and flushed about 10 cock birds. Figured that was good for the dog. For a duck dog, the Moose, does pretty good on upland. Heck, he could even chase down some of the running birds out in ND 2 weeks ago. Of course he couldn't catch up with the roosters though.
