Ok i might get a laugh outta this one but i just bought my girlfriend a husky. I wanted her to get a lab but she didnt want one. I was wondering if you guys think that i could train a husky to retrieve my doves and ducks? I really dont see why not. It is only 8 weeks old so it wouldnt be to hard to train. What do u think?

Many years ago, I had a husky that would retrieve golf balls when we were out in the yard driving. That was fun. Hit a golf ball and the dog would run out and bring it back. (I don't think I'd let most retrievers do that as I've seen a few golf balls that needed to be removed by surgery after they were swallowed. Silly retrievers. :p )

Not to be a party pooper, but what if you actually succeed in training a huskey as a retriever, and your gf braks up with you? All that hard work down the drain.

Just go buy yourself the lab you really want........

I've seen cattle trained to be ridden like a horse, so i would imagine with a lot of work you could train the Husky to retrieve. The thing with Huskies is they don't always do very well off the leash. Out of the 7 that I've had only 2 that were ok off of the leash. They were males. Husky females are very independant. I think your post said it was a male. If you succeed, it would be crazy to see it. Good luck!

I'd love to see the looks you would get showing up to a duck blind with your husky in tow.

Very non-traditional but I think it could work.

dogs are very smart animals and can be trained to do almost anything, i trianed my chihuahua and mt. cur mis to retrieve squirrells and hunt rabbits when i was a kid, i also hada rottwieler that would hunt coons, it may take a lil more trainig then a lab would but it is very possible
