I was at a preserve today to work the dogs on some huns before going to North Dakota and gettin into the wild birds but the dogs seemed not to wind them very well. Do they put out alot very little scent??

well how did that north dak trip go?in my limited experience with wild huns they seem to be like most birds when the scenting conditions are right the dogs have no problem with them but, when they are not the dogs have some problems even with a large covey, in boseman mont while exercising my dogs behind a shopping center my bird dog (pointer) bumped a lrge covey of 30 plus birds. even with the wind in his face, but it was 5 degrees that day with a snow on. the same dog handled them flawlessly just a week before in 45 dgree weather, covey or single.

Trip went great, I didn't get very many Huns but shot a couple.Didn't really hunt for them. I got out there and seen so many ducks kinda forgot about upland till the end of my trip. I ended up with 35 ducks, 10 pheasants, 12 sharptails and 2 huns. I only hunted my last 4 days for upland game.
Prior to going up I went to Elkhorn Lake Preserve and got some huns so my dog would have the scent. The dog didn't have any trouble with the scent, just the huns sometimes had to be stepped on to get them to fly, even the wild ones.
