I have been wondering that myself around here! I didn't see anything last time I went rabbit/squirrel hunting. and it was cold and we had an ice storm couple days b4.

I've hunted rabbits when it was below zero in the past and have always found that if thier out, they're only sitting about a foot to three feet from the holes.Makes em pretty tough to kill.Squirrels on the other hand tend to den up on really cold days.At least I don't see as many. :bouncy:

As long as the wind is calm, I've seen squirrels out and about. I hunted late ML at Mosquito Creek on Friday and it was below zero all morning. Probably saw at least 6 squirrels in the tree tops and even some tracks in the snow.
I don't know about rabbits and the cold, but I do know that the deep snow we have right now shuts down the rabbit hunting. First the beagle has a heck of a time just walking through it. And second the snow covers everything and the rabbits just tunnel under it and rarely break the surface. Hope we come some melting acting around here so I can get out again.

we've been out the past 2 sundays when the winds were calm and the temp was right around 20* and kicked up bunnies despite the coyote and fox taking over what used to be an excellent place. thought about going out today but it looks like it did'nt stop snowing until just before dawn, wiping out any tracks they made last night. (it's just me and the kid following tracks and beat'in bushes.)

i went hunting sunday with my friends and got 6 rabbits......if you can get them b4 they can make thier way to thier holes....your pretty good.....the easy way is to use a small beagle. Ours would dissapear in the snow.....then out comes and rabbits.....then out comes the dog....they are pretty good excepts if its windy its really hard for them to pick up the smell of fearfull rabbits

i havent hunted squirrells in the last month or so , but out coyote hunting i see them out , they wont travel far from the den tree if they dont have to, rabbits are still there they are just like the squirrells , they dont go far from the hole unless they have to, warmer weather will bring them out more

went out yesterday and got one. pretty good size too, it wasnt the biggest one we saw but the not bad. it was pretty darn cold when the wind was ablowing, it was actually pretty painful when it was comming from the empty feilds. but other than that it was a very nice day out :mischeif:
