Does anyone know about the AEP lands? What does the terrain look like? What kind of game might a person find there? ETC. ETC?
Thanks
Greg

Which area?? AEP has land all over the state. For the most part you can expect steep thick terrain. Be in shape because the hills will get you. I walked in one place on AEP land and it was probably 1 mile walk to get to the area for grouse. Ended up with a turkey and several grouse. You'll find all the normal Ohio game there and lots of it if your willing to do the footwork. Like I said be in shape or you'll be done after the first hillside. Did I mention its thick. :D :D

Thats good to hear. I guess i really don't know what area. I've never been on any of it. I was planning on checking some of it out this year. Maybe you might be able to recommend some areas as more productive than others. Actually the thicker the better for grouse and rabbits right? Ever see any Pheasants or Quail on the lands?

Go to www.aep.com then to eviromental...then to stewardship....then to recreational land........then to maps. Theres some maps of some public aep lands. I think one of the aep lands are 25,000 acres. You'll have a lot to work with. No chance on the pheasants, just not around. Ohio just don't have wild pheasants except in a few isolated places. You can find some quail in Southeastern Ohio but I have never hunted them do there so no info for you. You can get into grouse in just about every aep land you go on.
Also you can only hunt quail in certain counties so just make sure you check out the odow site.

I hunted some of there property just south and east a little of Coshocton. Jumped several grouse and saw alot of turkey. There were also quite a few dear there. I took a nice buck out of there two years ago during ML season. The terrain was rough for the most part and had alot of drop offs.

Thats where I took my turkey and grouse at. Yes the terrain can be very rough. It hard to hunt deer there because they get out in those fields and just bed down. So many high weeds in those big fields and so hard to cover it. Plus some of those hill sides are so thick you have to crawl through.

Well sounds like this place is worth checking out. So little time, so much land to hunt. I need to quit my job so I can have more time to fish and hunt. Who's with me?

LOL, actually I'm off work for 6 weeks of paternity leave. I have been off a month so far and wow, I can get used to this. The thought has crossed my mind more than a few times. Went dove hunting this morning, putting in the blind Sat. Plus not to mention how busy my baby girl Avery is keeping me.
