OK I have a 1999 yamaha kodiak big bear 4x4. I am having issues shfting it from gear to neutral, I have to do the whole rock it back and forth before it will kick down.
I was told about the nut and screw adjustment above the shifter (by your left foot) that you can make tighter or looser. Is this something that will work, or is this a problem that everyone has? How do I make this adjustment and how much should I adjust this?
Any help would be appareciated.

Have you checked the oil? I'm not sure about the Yami's or something from '99, but the engine oil lubes the tranny on my '07 Rancher. Might be something to consider. I will pass this along to my buddy who is a quad nut. He'll have an answer for you Wayne...

I know its common for auto-clutch, manual shift atvs to start having this issue when the machine gets some wear on it. Most people just deal with the rocking issue.
I'm not familar with the adjustment screw you speak of. With the age of your machine, you may want to invest in the service manual. They are usually about $60 and well worth it. Another suggestion would be to try a yamaha atv forum and do some searches. I used to get on various brand specific forums, but have gotten away from it. I'm sure their are yamaha brand specific forums out there. I know the kawasaki forum was called "Kawieriders" (spelling may be wrong).

I will try that....
My ATV is a manual without the clutch (auto-clutch I think its called)
The adjustment screw is right above the shifter it has "loosen" and "tighten" on it.

I'm not really familar with that screw. It probably tightens and loosens the clutch engagement, but I may be wrong.
First, try turning your idle down some. The clutch may be partially staying engaged if its idling too high.
Second, try adjusting that screw 1/2 turn. First looser and then see if that helps it. If that doesn't help, go back to the original mark and then go 1/2 turn tighter. If neither help, go one full turn both ways and see if either helps.
Again, a service manual will take the guess work out of it.

I had the same problem on my 400ex. It is a manual tranny. Tightened the clutch cable, then realized it was at the end of it's road. Replaced the clutch cable and never had a problem again.

virtually all motorcycles and atv engines have very similar clutch designs. you pull on a cable, a small rod pushes the pressure plate and the clutch separates so the plates slip. if the cable is stretched, the plates may not separate making shift selection hard especially going to nuetral. you may need a newer(shorter) cable or a simple screw adjustment. on automatics, chances are the clutch plates are not separating or slipping properly.
