I posted a few decent pictures of a good buck that I videoed the other night on my way to work. Now I know that the majority of this site's members are extremely experienced hunters that remain steadfast and stonefaced when they see a big buck, but I was suprised I did not get even 1 comment.

Is there anybody out there that enjoys seing a good buck, or maybe this isn't a good buck afterall

in response to no response, i thought it was necessary to share another couple photos of another buck I videoed. I appologize in advance if these pics do nothing for ya.

please excuse my sarcasm, but with just over a week before opening day, this site should be hummin' with activity

XX78,

Don't take offense to people not commenting on your pic's. I can appreciate a nice buck without commenting and I'm sure there are others on here that feel the same way. There are only a few of us that are regulars on this site and post almost daily. Others seem to post on weekends for whatever reason and there are others who don't post at all unless something gets their dander up.
Those are some nice bucks and I wish you success in your pursuit of them.

Take care, Spitfire

I was going to post yesterday, but then I had to run up to the deck.

That' is one hell of a buck. Do you have permission to hunt there? If so I'd be dedicating my entire hunting season him.

You could always let him go and then invite me to come up and hunt him with you...:)

I never took offense to the lack of response, just as the thread is tittled only disbelief.

I wasn't and am not looking for a "geeze XX78 your the bestest scouter in the world" response or anything like that. I just videoed some good animals and wanted to share them with others.

I guess its like going to a pep rally and your one of ten cheering, How can that team be sucessful?

this is a fun place to be in and I just wish that more were involved.

First the first pic is of a different buck in a different location. that one would go non-typ 12-15 point maybe 140-150 or so

the 2 & 3 pics are of the big 8hard to say really I guess it depends on how does the spread credit works? this one is pretty tall and from the side he looks like a good buck. when he turns his head sideways, he really shines. heres another one of him with a small buck.

You consider the one in front a "small one"??????? Are these deer from Ohio?

These are some very very nice bucks. I have some bucks in the area I hunt similar to the both of them here in NW Ohio. If I get the chance for a shot, that would be a bonus, but I take my shots when they present themselves. Good luck with your hunting these monsters.

Dandy bucks for sure....the best I've seen so far is an 18" 8pt which I consider a good buck in my area! And that's with many hours of glassing time on several different farms that I hunt on......good luck patterning the big boy;) .....TF

thanks guys it just makes me happy that I can share these biguns with you all. the crazy thing, well there are a few crazy things about these deer. these 2 are just 1/2 of insane bachelor group. three 8 pts and a 9 pt. It was a great day, i videoed does hitting scrapes on the treeline 50yds from these guys. every other day they are feeding in this field a total of 10 deer. tuesday the bucks were kind of running around, all except for the big guy, (he doesn't have to run for anybody other than himself). he is so big prob 350lb, and heck the others are prob atleast 4-5 yo deer. Id have to guess that the big one has made it through a few seasons. I can't wait to see them all rutted up. I'm not gonna lie baggin the big one would be a lifetime achievement, but just seeing them is definately my achievement of the decade, (don't tell my fiance' I said that!!!)

Yes these deer are from OHIO and are 100% wild. I recently purchased a book on ebay entitled "How to suck the chrome off a landowner's bumper". hopefully with a little passing humiliation I'll get the slip signed

XX78:

Good looking bucks no-doubt.

I'll make some comments though!

Be prepared for these bucks to "home" in other areas. Sure, one will take over that area near by, but they'll spread out in about 10-15 days from now. So don't count on getting all of them in your area to hunt...I've been there and done it, I have seen as high as 20 bucks in one evening in 2 fields in the area I hunt (one field is probably 20 acres the other maybe 8-10 and they are about 1/10 of a mile apart).

Come hunting season and after the "spread", one or more were taken well over a mile away. You got a little honey hole there, but in my experiences, you need to get on them the 1st week, because after that, all bets are off. You could kill one of those bucks opening day....I'd be on it and hunting hard for the 1st week. My $0.02 worth

Great bucks, no doubt, don't let anyone ***** ya! I'd stick the bigger one, and if the second hung around the "kill zone" for more than a few minutes, I'd probably shoot him also....they get tempting after showing themselves within 20 yards for more than 5 minutes or so...gives ya time enough to think of how cold January really is....hehehe!

oldhat ,

I understand completely, the activity is picking up a little. the two larger boys are close and never seem to stray more than 50yds at the most. but the other two are startin to play fight and some of the sequences get quite rough. this place is like a volcano about ready to blow. The only thing is I hope to get a chance to see some fallout. I am torn because I have a few other promising spots that although the deer are not as big as the bigun, they are damn close. The only thing is they are more huntable wind wise. If the wind is right you'd best believe I'm gonna give it a try.

XX78:

After a little studying of the bigger one, I'd say he's in the 144-152 range. That's pretty good for an 8pt....any 8pt that is "border line 150 is a keeper!

The only thing that was not clear, is his brow tines, doesn't look to have much on the brow tine side of things....at least not by the pic....can't make them out. I gave him about 12-15 inches there, it according to what he actually has that will efect my score above.

I was chasing a 4X6 2 years ago....as a basic 8, here was his make-up:

G1's = 6"/ea
g2,s = 14"/ea
g3's = 12" ea
Spread = 23"
Main beams=24 ea.

That was his basic "make-up", he would have (as scored as a basic 8) got me right around 150", needless to say, I had him coming right to me and within 30 yards, dang deer decided to "Cut" straight up the hill (steep) instead of coming into my "bowl"...I was "lciking my chops"...everything was perfect. Was the only time I seen him while hunting, but video's him 5-7 diff times....he was one hell of a specimen for a "basic 8".

Hope you take him, good luck!

(Oh, the best way to tell if you have a "world class" 8pt, (or any buck by that matter), is the 25" rule.......25" spread or 25 " main beams.....that's what I am talking about!.....that's big!

oldhat,

you are absolutly correct. I had him scored roughly around 120" before circumference measurements. I was figuring on the following:

spread 22- 23" depending on credit
beams 22" min
G1 I agree hard to tell need to watch video but fig 10"
G2 & G3s fig 44"

circumference prob another 23-30"

I hope I'm a little low, but I figure this should get me pretty close. the only thing that is hard to judge for me is the spread. He is so wide and he doesn't come back in much, just keeps goin out. I guess with how far away from him I am, it is not out of the realm of possibility that he could go 25". maybe I'll put a couple of yard sticks out there for reference lol.

Sorry to hear bout ur misfortune, were u able to find his sheds?

XX78,

Your not taking those pictures near an AirForce Base are you?

A few weeks ago a guy sent me pics of several "huge" bucks he snapped inside of Wright Patterson Air Force Base. A couple of them would have been 150-160 class and had similar mass as your photos. WPAFB allows hunting by military personel or civilian base workers only and there is a lot of security issues with trying to get in and out during key deer hunting times (before sunrise, and at sunset). But the photos the guy sent to me were taken on his lunch hour so I guess you could hunt anytime on the base for one of those monsters.

Great pics.....hope you get one!

I am nowhere near wright patterson, in fact I am in the caddy corner, (north eastern) part of the state. Have always wanted to go down south, but I have too much fun up here.
