Last night went out to hang a last minute stand on some property that my son and I have hardly hunted this season. Poor Kid has been at it hard all season to take his first archery deer. Anyways on the way back to the truck after getting the stand prepared I was walking down the tractor path. It was dark out but with being right outside Mansfield and the low cloud cover and the snow on the ground there was no prblem seeing what was going on. I had a real decent sized red fox come out of the woods on to the tractor path about 15 yds in front of me. He just started walking down the tractor path away from me. He never did see me.

He crossed over to this little frozen pond that was about 30 yds away that had some geese on it. I thought here we go Wild Kingdom in real life. It was so cool because the geese had a spot on the pond that was about 5 yds in diameter that was not frozen. The fox would approach the geese and get them to go onto the ice. Once he got them on the ice, he would take off runing after the one that was furthest from the hole in the ice. I got to stand and watch this go on for a couple of minutes before the fox finally moved on in search of other food.

I'll tell you what it is experieces like that, that I love and is why I hunt. Had I not been out sending time in nature I would have never had such a cool experience. Just wish I had my bow with me.

That is the same stuff that keeps me outdoors 365 days a year.

Cool story, thanks for sharing it!
