What have you all found to be the most accurate slug? Is a 3" that much better than a 2 3/4"? My gun has a fully rifled barrel.
for fully rifled barrels i use sabots have tried different brands but found that either lightfeild or winchester have worked the best for me

I shoot a mossburg 500 rifle barrel and i have found out that Breneke 2 3/4 slugs work best for that gun.
Best thing to do is buy a box of different brands and shoot them and see what performs best for that gun.
3" inch slugs will shoot fine out of my mossburg but will not ejected after shot so i have to shoot the 2 3/4 shells

I believe rifled barrels are ment to fire sabots, but I could be wrong. You can fire rifled slugs through them, but they usually aren't as accurate. I've heard that brenaki (sp?) makes good slugs, but I'd probably go with winchesters.
I only shoot winchester rifled slugs through my shot guns. I've found them to be the most consitant.
You don't need 3" for deer. The only thing your going to hurt more is your shoulder.

I used the Winchester Platnium Tip sabot slugs last season and they landed me two nice deer. I'm actually heading down to the range tomorrow to try out several brands to see what gives me the best grouping. Going to try out the Remington Copper Solids and Core-Lokt's, along with the Winchester Platnium Tip's and Partition Gold's.
Like CD2 said, each gun will be different so you will have to try out several brands to see what yours prefers. I also agree that the 3" slugs aren't really needed, especially considering some of the best performing sabot slugs only come in 2 3/4" shells.
Finally, I wouldn't recommend shooting rifled slugs through a rifled barrel. Yes you can shoot them, but the rifling on the slug will foul the rifling in your barrel rather quickly.

Well, after putting a big hole in my wallet buying 2 boxes of each type and putting a nice bruise on my shoulder (forgot my pad), the Winchester Partition Platnium Tips look to be my guns favorite. Here's the rundown:
Winchester Platnium Tips
1st Group = 2.5"
2nd Group = 2.75"
3rd Group = 2.5"
Remington Core-Lokt
1st Group = 3.25"
2nd Group = 3"
3rd Group = 4.5" (my fault for pulling one bad)
Winchester Partition Golds
1st Group = 3.75"
2nd Group = 4"
3rd Group = 3.5"
Remington Copper Solids
1st Group = 4.25"
2nd Group = 4"
3rd Group = 4.5"
All were 3 round groups shot with my Browning BPS with a Hastings 26" fully rifled barrel w/rifle sights @ 100yds. I cleaned the barrel after each group to keep things consistent as possible.

Yeah, the results were definitely a suprize. I used the Platnium Tips last season just on a whim and it turns out thats what my gun pefers. What are the odds?
Now I just need to learn to stay away from the Sportsman's Den in Shelby. Stopped in there to buy my slugs this morning, and left with a new TC Omega muzzleloader (laminate/Stainless) w/scope and a bag full of ML supplies. I've yet to find anywhere that has better gun prices in Ohio. Saved $100 over Cabela's price on the gun!!

Yes the sportsman den has some nice prices, lol. Fin Feather Fur can match them on some occasions, but not often. By the way, I hate my Mossberg 500 and their collapsable sights!!

Yeah, I wasn't to impressed with Fin Feather & Fur's gun prices last time I was there. Of course, that was right after they built the new building, so maybe their prices have come down some now that they've had a few years to make some payments on it. lol

best slugs, hmmmm, well i'm mostly a bowboy but i may have some good info here...i have found the best slugs are the ones 3" length,on the plump side, the black spotted one seem to be the tastiest.run cold water on em and wipe them down with a dry cloth.this removes all the slime.split it into 2 halves an fry in butter...ummmmmmm good
