I move my climber everytime I hunt, never the same tree twice. I think this helps them from patterning me.

I would fall in between the two choices so I voted yes. I have had them look at me but then again I am on a hillside and they are level with me at some times and also when they see me its usually because i have done something that attracted their attention.

I have deer look at me all the time. Does really seem to be keen on danger from above. If I don't move, even if they have me winded, they usually don't flee in a panic. I try to pick trees that give me a good background. I try not to be shilloetted(sp?) against the sky. I have an excellent afternoon stand that if used in the morning is a dead give away. The deer come from the opposite direction in the AM. I stick out like a sore thumb. They spot me every time. I have one of those buddy type ladder stands with camo fabric around the rails. I swithched to ladder stands when my upper body strength stopped keeping up with my lower body weight. I'll know in about two weeks if it helps...

Like to know where that tidbit of info came from....did deer recently start reading books on how to avoid being shot?....or is this now a in-born trait?
Lets not give the animal more credit than his tiny little brain deserves here..
Bottom line is....deer have ALWAYS had the ability to look up. They will react to what they see...smell ...and hear. Thats it folks...i do beleive they know the diference between what may be hazardous to ones health and whats not..ie. Racoon=good.....tall thing that walks up-right=bad.
I have had plenty of Deer see me in my stand or i should say they see something they are not sure about....but it has ALWAYS been because i moved or made a sound. I have NEVER had one spook even after they studied me for a minute.
My 3 cents worth...feel free to flame me.

Every tree stand hunter has been busted. If he hasnt then he hasnt been hunting very long. I like lure boy fall between. I get busted a couple of times a season. But not on every trip.
No flames from me stuck on shore but, there is always a but you know. That tidbit as you call it comes from bowhunting deer for over thirty years. I learned a long time ago that deer always had the ability to look up. I also learned to stand real still in my stand but, there's that word again, I have stood perfectly still and had deer that have been educated by other movable hunter BUST me by just looking up and seeing me in the stand. Has not been the wind as it is always across or into my face. Thank you for your $.03 worth and that along with mine is about all it is worth. Try getting off shore more often and enjoy the waves!

I hunt in a 12 ft ladder stand.... I find out that if my scent is under control, and if I am totally camouflaged, I dont spook deer. They can be 40 yrds away and walking straight at me, Look up at me and stare awhile.....If I dont move a muscle, the deer will keep walking straight under me without fear..When that happens.... its totaly awesome!:D

ok here it is,many sites i have are like bein on a telephone pole, mostly with the climber...i have deer look at me ,do the bob bin thing to catch me movin or in a different position, some deer dont see me even though i am 10-12 feet up...secret is to freeze, dont move.an another ole wives tail is lookin deer in the eyes will get you busted.i always do this an have never got busted even at close range.i have had deer wind me and still come in...i have had them circle my tree an i shot the critter at 5 yds.you never know and wind,it comes from all directions you know...its not always prevailin from the west.like i say,sit round a campfire an see how often wind changes.if you sit real still you will prolly never be seen by a whitetail on ground or in tree.aimright ed has personally hunted from a couple of my trees and seen me in one last year an can vouch for the poles an the low heights i hunt at...he was also there when i let a nice 10 point walk at less than 15yds.no cover,12 ft. up .the buck walked at me head on,before anglin off ,stoppin givin me a perfect quartering away 15 yd. shot.it had no idea i was there.dont be a mover, this you can control, the wind you cant...

seeing them first is the key. if I see them first I usually dont get busted. The problem is scanning looking for movement and keeping my movement slow enough to not get caught.

I have to say that any deer that consistantly look into the tree's for danger has been hunted hard and shot at from heights. The young bucks probably don't look up unless they hear somthing or unless they were headed up hill in the first place. So if you see a deer a ways off and he's scanning the tree's, he's probably a big one. Keep hunting.

when I was in Jersey in 1962 they had permanent tree stands, I was a ground hunter, I would often see deer from a 100 yards away from the stands look up at them, some of these things were 30 feet in the air, some of them looked like a kids playhouse, they had been there for years and the deer new it. they always looked up at them.

i feel if a hunter is seen in a treestand they are doing something wrong. whether it be smoking, eating, cellphone ring, scratching their but, snoring. when you go hunting have a hunting attitude, hunting is to be enjoyed yes but not a vacation. ive sen people do all of these things, i avoid them all. the only times i got busted was setting up my stand on a bad plain, where the deer saw me as they came over top of a ridge and we had eye contact. my fault so know i check out my placement more carefully.
