Well??? Are they??:D
Can this be the best Cavaliers team ... ever?
As they return home tonight to face Houston on Tuesday night, consider that one-third of the season is already over.
And the Cavs are 23-4.
The Cavs are 23-4 and started this season 1-2. That means they have won 22 of 24 games. The Cavs are 23-4, and that projects to 69-13. The Cavs are 23-4, and who'd dare dream that they'd start this fast?
I doubt they'll win 69 games. Or 65.
But 60?
Could be.
I write that as someone who was on the Cavs beat in 1988-89 and 1991-92, the two seasons they won a franchise-record 57 games.
I saw many of those games.I loved that team with Brad Daugherty, Mark Price, Craig Ehlo, John Williams, Ron Harper (in 1988-89) and Larry Nance. Lenny Wilkens had them playing beautiful basketball with ball movement, superb spacing and a sense that the players liked each other.
But this team can be better????
Mike (Brown) has done a terrific job getting them to play together,They have a real balance of guys who know their roles and buy into it.
It was like that with the Cavs a few times in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
But...I believe....this Cavs team has greatness. That's the bonus.:D
and Possibly.... LeBron James, on his way to an MVP season.
At 26-2 (.929), Boston is the defending champ, the best team in basketball on an outrageous 18-game winning streak. But right behind are the Cavs at 23-4 (.852), and taking the court with a 13-0 home record tonight. The Lakers (21-5, .808) have been the league's third best team.
What's happening with the Cavs is not a fluke. They have won 16 of their last 17 games by at least 10 points. They are sixth in the league in scoring (102.4), and have allowed the fewest points (89.2) of any NBA team. They have the third-highest shooting percentage (48.11), and the second-lowest defensive field goal percentage (42.07).
They are a sweet, savory blend of offense and defense.
They are a team for the casual fan because of James' star power, but one for the purist because they are doing so many little things just right.
They are winning big with James playing a career-low 36 minutes a game. They are winning big despite having only five players who were in uniform at this point last season -- Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Anderson Varejao, Daniel Gibson, Sasha Pavlovic and James. They are winning with a high-powered offense and a defense that never rests.
The Cavs are even making nearly 78 percent of their free throws, their best mark in 15 seasons.
So......will this team make history?????
