I have been loading 800X in AA hulls for my 28 gauge and it sure leaves a lot of residue in the barrel. The cleaning patch is unbelievably dirty the first couple of times and there even seems to be some unburned flakes of powder.

Planning to switch to Blue Dot soon as I will be loading Cheddite hulls with BP wads. Maybe it will burn cleaner.

I have seen this with the 800-X but for my 16 ga I have not seen something that shoots better and for allot of things that I use in the 12 ga 'AA', I have yet to have a problem with it, even in my self loaders.

Yeah, it shoots good for me too. I am basically changing because of the hard-to-get 28 gauge empties. I just bought a bunch of Cheddite Hulls from Ballistics Products and the loads call for Blue Dot with their wads.

I haven't been loading 16 gauge, but I will probably get a 16 gaue MEC when I sell my next article.

star,
I am looking at a 28 ga too, Dad had one that was a Rem 11-48 and was a very good gun to point, I fell for the 16 ga at a very young age (10 or so) and never got over it. If I am not out for Duck or Geese and Turkey I will most likly have a 16.
I used Win powder back in the early 70's for trap shooting with a Rem 1100 but that was about all that I did with it, I know use 800-x all the time but for steel and Hevi-shot. I think that when I get my 28 I will try the 800-x. I to get alot of stuff from BP but they still have the info if you ask for it on loading the other powder.

Other the 870 Express that I use for deer and turkeys, my two favorites are my Red Label 28 and my LC Smith 16. I also have an 1100 Special Field Edition in 28.

The 28 is a great sub-gauge and has it all over the .410. It really hits hard with the right load as it has a very short shot string. Don't ask me why, I just go with what the engineers tell me.

All three of those guns have a straight English stock. The LC Smith belonged to a very dear friend who passed away at the ripe old age of 90 something. He was a man of class and the gun reflects his good taste.

I read these kind of stories all the time in the Double Gun Journal.
That is so cool! :)
