I feel bad for that group of hunters. It really sounds like a scam to me.

I think there are a lot of so-called guides out there doing this. I went to Illinois about 5 years ago. Mainly had to hunt state land but did a little driving around trying to find permission for some private land. (Its about impossible!!). anyhow, I saw a guy walking his dog one morning and asked him who owned the property there. He said it was his Dads. I asked him if we could hunt it since we only had 2 days left of our hunting trip. He said sure but there was one guy they gave permission to hunt there and if we could just don't hunt right beside him. He told me the guys name and continued to tell me what was their property lines and where I could park. Well to make a long story short I met up with the guy who had permission to hunt. He was all mad at me for hunting there saying I didn't have permission. I told him I did have permission and it was in my truck. well him and his buddy tried to argue with me the whole way to my truck and his buddy was telling me he paid $1,700 to hunt there and I really had no reason to be there. Before we got to my truck, they jumped in his truck and drove to the owners house. I followed. When I got there I told the land owner I didn't want to creat any problems and would look for another spot to hunt. I said I didn't know he was charging money to hunt there. The landowner looked at me like I was nutts and the other two guys got silent. I left and stopped at a friends place. Told him the story and he started laughing telling me that guy who had permission was scamming the landowner and was acting as a guide. He knew the guy and after he told me who it was I couldn't believe it because I actually saw his picture in North American Whitetail with a buck he shot, along with his guide phone number!!! So I guess anyone wanting to go with a guide should really do there homework and surely check references. There seems to be a lot of hunters making money acting as guides. Sorry for the long story. Just wanted to share a similar hunt.
