I have been out hunting as much as i can for the past month and a half.
I have a chair blind that is put in the tree line and covered in vines and brush.
I have put out some corn on the private land i hunt on near a route where the deer go into the heavy woods i cant walk through.
i see tracks ,i see corn being eaten, i see fresh rubs on small trees near by, i see deer scat,. I am NOT seeing any deer though.
I was out today from 1 till 5:39pm and didnt get to see any.
Anybody got sugestions for me. I just want to shoot one.
should i try at first light?
Hand grenades? what?
I'm using a crossbow. can only walk so far ,can only carry a light pack.
I use scent control and camo'd up.
Anybody near Butler County that wants to help a gimpy fella get a shot at a deer?

Keep at it buddy you'll get one.. The first one is always the hardest.. How far of a shot do you have to your front right and left? If you have been hunting it in the evenings and not seeing anything you might try in the mornings. I have a stand tat I guarantee i will not see a deer in the evenings but they are there in the mornings.. I wish I was closer to come and help you out some.. I am sure we have someone here that can stop by and maybe take a look at it for you and maybe give some insight and pointers.

The best advice i can give you is keep trying and don't give up. I know it can get frustrating. Bt the reward will only be that much sweeter.

did have a little success yesterday evening. went out all day, from dusk till dark. Saw ten deer all day. first one busted me when i got up to pee. the chair blind is o.k. but ya cant stand up in it to p, at least i cant.
then about ten thirty , saw three more too far away to shoot.
thought they were coyotes at first being they were the size of labradors.
then about 5:30 saw three more come out got close to my corn , one was starin right at me so i could shoot at his face! waited, and waited. finally he turned, by this time it was D-A-R-K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5:42. I let a cross bow bolt fly, right over him i guess. waited ten minutes then got out , looked in the field ,couldnt find the bolt or any bloood. went back out this morning, no blood ,found my arrow, lots of fresh tracks though.
So, I AM getting closer.
thanks for the support gang.

Good luck to all who are going out this weekend for gun season last days. I wont be out saturday, family Christmas party but will be out all day Sunday. I am much better with a shotgun than flinging arrows.

Will be going out this afternoon from noon or so till dark with the crossbow. Got some new "bat" style string silencers from a Christmas gift card, and another bag of shell corn.
Have been shooting a little more at my target set up and am getting MUCH better. Wish me luck!

Have You Tried Washing Ur Clothes In An Ultraviolet Wash . Then I Put My Gear In A Travel Container With Leaves In It To Get The Scent Of My Area On It . I Spray A Cover Scent On . I Prefer An Acorn Scent Or Oak .... Ive Even Used Dirt Scent . I Then Spray Myself Before I Go Out Everytime . It Is True , Just Because You Dont See Deer In That Area In The Morning Doesnt Mean Theyre There In The Evening Or Vice Versa . Just A Little Info .

Havent been out lately. My grandson decided to share his cold with me,so the running nose and constant coughing wouldnt be good while out in the field. Hope to get out this thursday and friday.
Gonna try to set up my ground blind closer to where i have been seeing tracks come out of the tall grass next to the cut soybean fields.
there isnt much food source out there now, except for the corn i;ve been bringiong out with me.
Would it do me any good to bring out my bleat or grunt calls?

Outdrjoe,thanks for the offer.
That is exactly what i want to do. I am not looking to take out all the big boys in the area, just want some meat.
I make the BEST deer chili you have ever tasted!
just found out i wont be hunting today, i get to pick up my grandson again today.
I am disabled and dont work, but my wifey has a great job that she loves, and my daughter and her hubby both work down town Cincy and dont get home till almost seven most days , so the little boy gets to come over here and we play with cars and watch cartoons!
I just started taking my son in law out hunting last year ,so he and I get together when we can but i am not the worlds best teacher.
I need to learn more about these elusive beasts.

Just about every place I hunt, there is one place the deer like to cross a road. take a ride with snow on the ground and start looking at tracks on the road. The deer will be crossing there on hot october days too. If you cant walk to far, this may be better than hoofing a mile back in the woods.
I have hunted in places where I could hear school buses hit the brakes because they have seen deer cross the road so often on a bend or a hilltop.
so when your sitting, pay attention to traffic on the roads, you might just find a perfect setup.
I know a lot of other places where deer bed as close to a house as they can get because they feel safe and no one ever kicks em out of their beds. but when they head off to feed, they may be crossing a street.

antiucycle, thanks for the post. I did move my chair blind a little closer to the roadway back to the property where i hunt. there is a line of trees about 500 yards from the access road that is about twenty feet thick and i noticed that there were tracks coming out of it one day. Well, the one day i got out about 2 and saw 6 deer just grazing in the field near the trees, so i set up in the trees. Havent been out since this snow hit but thinking of getting out this after noon for a while.
