No, I don't mean poaching. That is illegal and wrong!!

What I mean is, in preparation for the next season, what steps do you take to prepare for a great fall.
For example I know a few people who shed hunt in February. Scout in the spring, and hang stands in the dead of summer.

I thought it would be fun for everyone lay out what they do in the offseason and in season to ensure success. Whether it be locating a good buck in Early September or finding late season hot spots. Share...

After deer I take a little time off, then spring turkey, followed by morning dove season, followed by deer (bow) then I take a quick break for pheasant (which is this week) followed by gun season. Oh and after gun season it is back to the bow and I try to fit in a little fall turkey hunting.

While I am hunting the other animals I always look for deer signs, places to set up my stand, etc...

In the summer Im busy hanging stands and working on food plots, scouting bachelor groups and gaining permission for new places. October hits and it's all about bow hunting. Then gun season, then, bow, then muzzleloader, then bow all the way to febuary(just not as intense.)March I shed hunt more than I bow hunt, as I go out almost everyday atleast to do a quick search. Then there is turkey season, probably the only time my main attention is off whitetails. Although every turkey hunt is a shed hunt as Im always looking. Im absolutely addicted, the show whitetail freaks reminds me of myself except for their trophy walls, mine is not even close. Here is a question, how many people would give up sex for deer hunting? I would in a heart beat, but of course Im not going to volunteer that to my wife unless it's the rut!

I like to fish, but I don't have the time because I'm always hunting. If it's not deer, it's groundhogs, coyotes, geese, squirrels, etc.

Not a chance! :coco: I like to have my "cake" and eat it too....after all what good is cake if you can't eat it. :mischeif:

I never stop. If I am not actually hunting, I am scouting, moving stands and cameras, working on food plots, shed hunting, working on getting new land, shooting, etc. I have no other hobbies for the most part. I play some golf and we ride ATV's a good bit. But for the most part, bowhunting is what I do...

I always finish my hunting during the rut so I don't have to be out in the cold. Don't really have any drive to hunt any other animals aside from the whitetail. Now if we had wild hogs or something, I'd kill them all year. :coolgleamA:

Wish I could say that I spent that much time in the woods. But I know that I would end up divorced if I did that. Come Sept. my wife knows that it is in though. By the end of Nov. she is usually getting on my back to sttart spending some time with her. I can't blame her though. We joke that "We interupt this marriage to bring you DEER SEASON!!" But in all honesty it is not really a joke. I'm thankful that she puts up with it the way she does.

It is definately a year around preperation and obsession for me and my buddies! There is way more things that go into this than i am going to list, but just to give a basic overview, i will only list the major steps that i usually go by!

October- December - Hunting every chance i get, scouting, running trail cams.

January- Febuary- Running trail cams to see when they drop their horns, squirrel hunting (while still in season), scouting for next season.

Febuary- March - Shed hunting and scouting. In my opinion, this is how i find my best spots to hunt, because if you find their horns, that is their home range and more than likely one of their main food sources are near.

April-May- Not much to do in my opinion, besides getting mineral sites developed and ready.

June-August- Running trail cams waiting for antler development, hanging stands, and preparing food plots and planting whenever they are recomended to plant. Shooting bow quite a bit.

September- Running trail Cams, shooting bow, squirrel hunting, and praying that the 1st of October will come quicker so I can get into the woods!

Being relatively new to the world of bowhunting, this is my first year that i've spent quite a bit of time in the woods. Going to finish out the bow season strong with as much time in the stand as possible.

Once the season is up its time for shed hunting/scouting.

During the summer months it will be trail cams and scouting, followed by hanging stands in july-august.

Once September rolls around it will be back into "hunting mode" and getting my mind right to spend as much time back in the woods as possible.

All year long one way or another. After deer season is over I start new mineral sites and set up shed catchers. I think late winter is the best time to scout for travel corridors. All the vegetation has died out and really shows everything.

Spring I look for sheds and Moral shrooms. Mmm! Then throw a line in the water every chance I get. Also a few arrows. Bowfishing is great if you have not tried it...it is a must (especially if Tiffany Lakowsky is with you:yikes: ).

Check cameras through out the year. Shoot yotes every chance I get.

In feb we take some time off. Beginning of March we shed hunt and scout for Turkey and stand placement for the fall. We then spring Turkey hunt which usually gives a good opportunity to observe Deer movement. June rolls around we start heavy scouting and looking if the deer have changed up. Put up stands and let everything settle in for a month or two before the season opens up. Then its back to the grind in the fall =)
