I saw 3 different bucks today. I grunted at all of them, and tried the can. Nada.
I suggest putting the calls up for the year. :(

Grunt calls have been ignored by the bucks I have seen in the last 10 days. The can worked great last Saturday (youth gun season) on a 9 point. He came in fast, not a shooter though. Since then I have had no responses. I think if you are going to try anything, the can is the one. Grunts may even spook bucks now. just my opinion.

I have grunted all season and nada. I think when grunting luck is def involved. You jsut have to be in the right place at the right time for them to hear you.
Those grunt calls dont travel far, if they were bedded say 100 yards from you i don think they can hear it. At least thats what I have experienced.

I agree. Grunting has brought in very few deer. It seems like 12-15 years ago the results were better. Maybe they are getting call wise? One other note, that buck you are grunting at needs to be in the right mood to investigate. If they aren't feeling too aggressive, they usually ignore or go the other way. Wtched a show one time where the "expert" said to never blind call. In other words, don't grunt unless you actually see the buck. And only grunt if it looks like he is not coming your way so you may change his mind.
In my experience I have grunted in a few that I never saw (I think). I know I've rattled in a few. It seems rattling is better these days than grunting. During gun season though I try to stay away from calls since the deer are more spooky.
Anyway, a friend of mine said his dad shot a big 9 pointer this morning dogging a doe. Plus he saw another buck chasing a doe. Maybe the rut is still going on a bit, so some calls could work. All the deer I have seen have been alone as far as gender goes. Does with does, bucks alone.
Sure wish I was an expert at something instead of nothing.
