Coonie, If you aren't taking the super long shots that some would take, then in my opinion noise isn't an issue. 20-25 yard shots aren't going to be missed by jumping the string. But if it's a concern go with a recurve limb instead of the compound limbs. My son started with an old barrnett recurve and it was as quite as anything out there. But you usually give something up to get something else. Good luck and good hunting down there this season. :D

well some say jus the opposie on string jumpin that noise is more alarmin at close distance an we are talkin bout the fastest bows bein 600 fps slower than most pellet guns an bb guns bein much faster...but i guess i doan like hearin somethin that souns like its ready tuh break, now this ain jus xbows, most cps fit that criteria too that i've heard...cps i can prolly fix but xbows...i doan know...i have heard the horton legend is very quiet for a cp xbow an the one they were shootin at buckeye outdoors was quieter than th cps...is this true...anybuddy...is it normal for the legend...i wanna know,thanks...:D

for $400 or less I'd go with a horton. I got a 2 hortons... just throw some limbsaver pads on the arms ... never had a deer jump string. First deer I ever shot with it i was in a 15ft ladder stand had a nice 8 at 15 yards.. put the dot on the shoulder let the bolt fly. He looked around for a second.. didn't know what happened took 5-6 steps and went down. He never heard the string.

I think you get what you pay for.. I stood 10 yards off to the side of my target.. told my brother to take a 35 yard shot... He pulled the trigger on the Horton 150# .. I heard a little crack... Then he shot my TenPoint Phantom cls... only thing I heard was the arrow coming... it makes a sound no matter what... you can hear the arrow pushing air.

Coon, if you want to shoot traditional x-bow, shoot a excalibur. Good old recurve x-bow. :D It is not quiet, but i have not had a deer or turkey jump the string yet... By the way, I was in the drive thru at mcdonalds at brice and main around 1045 last night and saw a 130"+ buck walk from behind walgreens, to behind napa. Maybe you are driving too far to hunt.. :bouncy:

Been hunting with a Horton Legend(150 lbs.) for a couple years. I think its pretty loud. But no louder than my old Horton Super-mag. Killed some nice deer with both though.

Coonie I started out with the horton legend. GREAT BOW!! Never had a deer jump string on me. Never lost a deer either. I don't know if you would consider that to be luck or what, but I was hugely impressed by the Horton Legend

Coonie,
Best way to reduce any noise on either a crossbow or a compound - wear some ear plugs. Works every time, guaranteed. :mischeif::mischeif:

i'm glad to say i'm having no shoulder problems or any other so far this year, this is a first as far back as i can remember...last time before coming out of my stand i nailed the leaf once and put the next two about an inch from it...so i'm still holding up there...if only that leaf was on the side of a deer in the kill zone...:D
