View Full Version : Mosquito Creek
Just saw that I was picked for the mosquito creek Muzzleloader hunt on Jan 16 :( , not exactly the one that I wanted, but atleast I got picked. Any one know how the area and or the hunt is setup? I saw the ODNR map and a lot of the area is restricted, do they remove this restriction for the controlled hunts?

I was selected about 10 years ago. The -15 degree weather was one that made for fond memories. It was an open hunt where about 4-6 hunters had their own couple hundred acre plot. They operated at the time on a partner system. I took my father. We ended the morning about 10 am with a nice 18" heavy 8 point and a 170 pound doe. We hunted an area with lots of harvested corn fields which must have held the deer all year long. Lots of deer seen that day. You should have a good time next Jan. I haven't got into any of the draw hunts since we aquired our property in southern Ohio. Pretty much just hunt my property exclusively anymore. We're pretty fortunate in that regard.

I understand the property aspect, ive got a good place to hunt too ,but i guess i wanted to spice things up a little.
but i have to admit my reaction at first was like mosquito.... well alright. but now that i thought about it, you are right. it may be cold and i may have filled my buck tag, but it is hard to put a price on fond memories of a good hunt with a good friend, regardless of the harvest
Were u able to scout the area before the hunt took place? Ive read that some of the other hunts allow the hunters to scout the area a few weeks prior.

No we did not know the location we were going to hunt until the morning of the hunt. The wardens had placed us in that particular area. As luck would have it we were completely satisfied with our location and hunt. There is a lot of deer out there. I would not recommend harvesting the first one that goes by.
according to the and aerial maps I think the ODNR was like "Well guys thats it...... wait a minute what do you say we draw one more name for the most flat, crappy grassland quadrant! I think Im gonna drive out there and look at the area, they provided me with a map and the section where I am allowed to hunt. So far the best thing is we can change locations after noon if we want.

do you want to trade it for an oct. 11 ravenna hunt?
That could be a definte possibility since I nor my hunting partner have muzzleloaders yet. If you need the details regarding the hunt I can email pics of the letter I was sent. let em know either way.
