I took my 11 year old brother out yesterday in hopes to get him his 1st deer. We hit the woods about 6:20 am and sat until 11:30am. We didn't have a very successful morning. We only saw three small button bucks. We went to lunch and then got back in the woods at 1:30 pm. Once again the first 3 deer we saw were small. Then about 3:50 we had a doe come in. The whole time she was in front of us she kept looking up the hill behind us. I was hoping that she was keeping an eye on another deer behind us. She left and about 2 minutes later a beautiful 7 point buck came in. I nudged my bro and told him there was a big buck. As soon as he saw in his heart was pounding out of his chest! The buck came within 15 yards and my little bro pulled the trigger on the crossbow. He put an arrow in the deer, but unfortunatly he hit in high.It was not a clear pass through. I think he hit right above the lungs. I don't think he caught a lung, but there is a chance he could have caught the very top of them. Since it was a Sunday night I had to get him back home for school in the moring. We waited about an hour and went to see if we could find any blood. About 30 yards away we food a few drops of bright red blood. We tracked hime for about 1/2 mile until we decided to back out. While tracking we would find drops of blood every 10 ft or so. We never did find the arrow either. When we got back to the house we went and talked to the neighbor. He said we was going to go out today and see if he could find it. The day has come and gone and I never heard from him, so I am assumming he didn't find it. As you can imagine I am upset that my little brother couldn't get his first set of antlers in his hands, and I feel bad that there is a nice buck out there probably suffering. My brother keeps blaming himself and telling me that he is a bad shot and shouldn't have taken that shot. He has asked me 3 times today if I have heard from the neighbor yet...it hopes that he has found his deer. I am planning on going back down this Saturday and am going to spend the day searching every inch of those woods. I know the meat won't be any good, but I want to find that buck for my brother.
