Okay guys, really like the site and have read some good tips, etc. on here. My question/dilemma is my son is drawn for a shotgun this Sunday at Mosquito Creek. I have been eyeballing the weather and it sucks for a kid. Now he is tough and I would hunt it in a heartbeat. I just dont wanna discourage him by driving 4 hours, getting a motel and getting skunked in bad weather to boot (at least bad for him). Should I just wait till reg youth the following week? I realize no guarntee on weather that weekend as well. He really wants a deer, so maybe thats my answer. Thanks in advance.

Get yourself a ground blind and a rain coat and go. The time you spend with your boy will be the best memories you'll both ever have!

I remember being about 12-13 and going 160 miles across the state with my dad on an October bowhunt where we were camping. It started raining the first morning and didn't quit for 2 days. We ended up soaked and spent the nights in a leaky berry house full of mice. We barely slept a wink, were soaked the entire time and saw very little action. But I can remember that trip like it was yesterday.

Just remember it's about him and not you. Do what it takes to make it fun for him and go make some memories!!!

GO!
The chance of rain/snow in Sunday is 60%. The 48 hour projected rainfall for Ohio is 1/4-1/2" Just be prepared, make sure he knows what the weather is like, and if you leave a little early thats OK.

Good Luck!

Go for it, the worst that can happen is that you and your son have a great time inside if the weather gets that bad. With weather like that, the deer may be moving anyways with the cold. I like the ground blind idea that was mentioned. Good Luck!

Well...there is no story. We didnt make the long drive after all and stay in motel. (O well saved money). We bowhunted a little Sunday around here and then got a call from a friend wanting us to hunt the youth hunt with them. So it all worked out. I still had memories, just not hunting. We had a family night Saturday ( I have 3 other kids) rented some movies, had some soup and grilled cheez and just stayed warm around the fireplace. Plenty of hunting left! Thanks to all for the advice. :)
