Don't worry about the position of the moon!!!

After 10 years of whitetail research I can tell you that checking over 4000 sightings of deer with the Solunar Table, Vektor Feeding & Fishing Times and the Moon Guide, that they do not work.

Please - realize that in order to check how good they are, you can't just count the number of deer you see when you are "hunting", you have to count the number of deer you see in the same basic locations, from sunrise to sunset, 7 days a week, all month long, from September 1 to December 31, for about three years. Otherwise your samples, and your methods - are flawed - and you are likley to come up with incorrect conclusions.

There is no correlation between the overhead underfoot position of the moon, and hourly deer activity, so none of those tables will work.

However, my own research, and the research of two other researchers, in two other states, shows that deer, including bucks, are generally more active during the Full and Last Quarter Phases of the moon, with slightly more activity from 3 days before to 3 days after Full Moon, regardless of whether ther are clouds or not.

BUT, deer are generally more active than normal in the late afternoon and early morning, when there is cloud cover, because it makes the sky appear darker than normal at those times, BECAUSE security to a deer is often low-light conditions.

So, when there is cloud cover in the mornings or evenings, get out and hunt.

When there is a full moon, get out and hunt.

When the Scraping Phase is on, get out and hunt, becaue that is when bucks are most predictable at specific times along their rub routes, especially the closer you get to their daytime core areas.

When the windspeed is below 10 mph, get out and hunt.
When there is little to no precipitation, or when it is snowing (without winds), get out and hunt.

When the temperatures or windchills are optimum for your area, get out and hunt.

When all those conditions come together, find a rub route, where you have previously patterned a buck - GET OUT AND HUNT !!!

Need I say more?

God bless and good hunting,

T.R.

Since temeratures very from north to south, deer in the norht are accustomed to colder temperatures, and deer in the douth are accustomed to hotter temperatures.

As a result of my 10 years of research - I realized tht deer in the upper midwest deer rarely move in temperatures above 45 degrees after they have their winter coats on, with peak sighitngs around 10-30 degrees,

That might help you guys.

Let me know what you see, and what your get, and you can send me photos at TRMichels@yahoo.com .

God bless and good hunting,

T.R.

I have not published any books or have I ran a guide school but I have been hunting whitetails for 50 years and I know you will see less activity on a full moon than any other time of the month being the same weather, also we hunted everyday last week in the 70degree weather and it shut down by 8:30am everyday and did not pick up until last light and ran thru the night.scrapes were checked thru out the night as we had a couple of cameras out,and we saw at least 10 bucks chasing does on our way back to town.BB

Did you sit out there every hour of every day, of every week for the entire month, for 4 months each fall, counting every deer that moved in your area? Or did you only count deer on the days you hunted?

Every one of those 50 years?

Do you have documented proof? If so I would like to see it.

If you did not do that it would explain the differences in what you saw and what researchers see. It is not just me, but several well respected deer biologists/researchers.

God bless you and yours,

T.R.

No I did not set the entire month ,but doubt very much that you did either,If anyone does not agree with you you blow that BS at them .I am just saying what I have seen from my stand.I have been in a stand from light to dark the last three days and they are not moving in the day light .BB

What makes your theory any better than Alsheimers,Krolls,leRoche and numerous others that say the moon has an affect.?I believe they are qualified in thier field as researchers.I am just a hunter that tells it like I see it.BB
