I have been reading with interest about crossbows. A lot of you fellows are talking about shooting at 40-60 yards. What type of sighting system are you using to shoot that far?? Scope?? Pins??
I have never owned a crossbow, but I have been shooting archery for close to 40 years, so I am a decent shot. But I have never felt confident in shooting at deer at these distances.
I am in the market to buy a new crossbow, and I want to get it right the first time. Thanks, Tom.

I haven't used a crossbow in 3 or 4 years now that I hunt with a compound bow, but I can say that the Barnett Revolution and Barnett Quad are both fast shooting crossbows. I have taken several does at 40 plus yards with my Barnett Quad and that is the model that was made 4 or 5 years ago. I used a scope and my dad owns the Barnett revolution and has had the same results.
This is just my personal opinion because I know that other companies make excellent crossbows as well (Parker,Horton,Tenpoint, etc.)
Good Luck!

I have a Tenpoint Elite w/red dot scope and it is dead nuts on at 40 yds. I would shoot that distance without hesitation...now if I could only be that confident with my compound:coco:

I got my start in archrey with a Horton Legend SL. Awesome piece of equipment. When it comes to crossbows Horton knows what they are doing. I put a Simmons crossbow scope on it. That scope has multiple crosshairs for different yardages. The only problem I had (which was a good one) was that from 20 yards to 40 yards I was using the same crosshair. I never shot at a deer at 60 yds, but target practiceing I would sometimes get out that far just to see if I could hit the target. I can say that they where still accurate. I still don't know if I would shoot at a deer at that range just because I don't know if you would get the penetration that you would want to on the deer for the kind of fatal shot that I prefer.
That is my experience with a crossbow. It defenitley does the job, and if it were not for the crossbow I wouldn't be hunting today.
