Spent 3 hours or so walking around Delaware wildlife area this afternoon. Saw one cock pheasant and one rabbit, didn't shoot at either. A little wet and chilly but still fun.
How'd everyone else do?

We hunted a little over 3 hours and put up one rooster that was running and flushed about 100 yards out before the dog caught up. This year was the first really notable change in my dogs due to their age, even then they worked ok for being 11 1/2 yrs old. The scenting conditions went downhill fast after about 8:30. Grass dried out, got a little warmer and zero wind. Also flushed 5 timberdoodles which was a very nice bonus for the day!
We had a twist today in that the state took on a major habitat improvement project in the fields we went to hunt in. They completely tore out and replanted about 20-30 acres of bird field. They did this with a couple fields at Berlin recently and if these come in as well as the ones at Berlin are I will be thrilled!

I hunted Grand River W.A. this morning with my best friend, a yellow lab, airedale mix. We got started around 10:30 and finished up around noon with two cock-birds. I found an area where the pressure was not too bad. I think allot of the guys that got there early already left the area I was in. We flushed a total of 4 birds and one bunny. It's great to get out and hunt pheasants with a good dog.

Hunted Shreve, like I have for many years. They don't get the bird numbers of the bigger areas because it's a small WA with lighter pressure.
I'd like to slap the guy that ran the combine through the corn field. Chopped it ALL down about 2 inches from the ground and chopped up the stalks till they were matted down. Field area below that was some sort of green plant that stood about three inches tall. Absolutely NO COVER for the birds. What few birds were released went into the small woodlot. I won't hunt that area because they shoot at head height in there. Idiots!
Heard all of eight birds shot at and got a gift when one flew the gauntlet along the treeline right to my son and I.

I didnt hunt pheasants, but took the beagle out for her 1st hunt. Hunted hard for 3 hours. She ran 3 rabbits. 1 took her across the road to a private sportsman's club so I had to lay the gun down and go get her. Another went to ground after only 100 yards. The third she brought around twice, I only saw it once, but I couldn't get a shot.
Took her out Sat. for an hour and a half. She circled 2 rabbits. I got the 1st one on its 2nd time around. The second one she brought by while I was cleaning the 1st. It saw me and never came back my way. So I moved around a bit, but never did see it again. She eventually lost it after another 20 minutes.
She did well this weekend. It seems to be me that let her down, but dont tell her. she didnt seem to know the difference. lol :shhh:
