I'd say things are firing up in Columbiana County/Guilford Lake area. Saturday/Sunday all we saw were bucks. Basically a couple bucks each time we were out in mornings and evenings. We didn't see 1 single doe, maybe they are hunkered down a little tighter not wanting harassed??? Sunday morning we used can bleat call and called in 2 diff bucks, one a shooter. Sunday evening much the same, 1 shooter, 1 not. Neither shooter buck provided a shot but they definately were responding to the can call and in the mood. Sunday morning was pretty exciting listening to them crash through the woods after a doe, wow, what a racket they were making! I think it only gets better from here. Not a lot of response to the rattling but definately from a can call.

Another neat thing was a snarl and then 3 short whimpers right before daylight on Sunday morning. I think a Coyote got himself a rabbit is the only thing I can guess. Sounded aggressive and like a quick kill somewhere behind us not too far. My buddy and I were trying to do some filming and both heard it!

Unfortunately I won't get to hunt anymore until Nov. 15/16th!!

Bill, are you sure you weren't hearing squirrels chasing?

We are still a while from even chasing I do believe.

Trust me, they were chasing Sunday morning. You can't mistake the sound of grunting, trees and everything in its path being knocked down sound of a buck chasing a doe. I've witnessed this a few times and love to see it.

Slippy, I've been here!?

Hi WRS, yea let me know when they start breaking loose down your way. It's interesting to keep up on the deer activity between my house in Mahoning County and our family farm in Harrison County. Good luck to you too!
