Yeah, I know this is the Ohio Crossbow forum, but I won't be in Ohio for a couple more weeks. I was out this morning on the ranch I hunt down here in central Florida...pouring rain and 72 degrees (doesn't get much colder this time a year). We have one week of crossbow down here and since it was raining I wanted to sit in the blind instead of the open, so I decided to break the old Ten Point out.
I was hunting an open cut in the woods where it looks like a deer superhighway (trails crossing from every direction in this opening. I saw nothing but a tree frog for the first hour (which is unusual for me in this spot). I figured I'd hit the ol' Primos can call and try to drum up some business. 15 minutes later this little guy came in and walked right in to 10 yards looking for the lady. The thunderhead 100 tipped bolt went flyin some 330fps and buried in a root all the way to the fletching. Double lung/artery shot jumped him straight up, ran 5 yards, walked 10, dropped dead. No tracking needed.
It was a great morning in spite of the rain. This guy was the only deer I saw all morning. Small rack, but big body for down here (went about 130 lbs). Just thought I'd share... Nice to be on the boards for the '08 season with lots more to go. I'll be up to hunt the big boys on the family farm in a couple weeks. I can't wait!
