In this poll I consider bait as being anything that would draw that deer into bow range.
I believe I could do it. I have in the past so there is no reason to think that I still couldn't

Sure can, did it last year. Woke up in the back of my jeep. Got dressed, looked for scent blocker, oopps, back in dorm room. Well camo was scattered all over the inside, smelling like campfire from the night before and alittle Jack Daniels. Sat in the stand for about and hour and in came mama and yearling. MMM she tastes great! Can't say I'd want to do it again, but I'll take it.

Setting in a tree stand (COVERS MY SCENT) overlooking a loaded Oak tree (bait), very natural. We can't get away from it ?

I voted no. But I could if I had to. I would rather hunt the food plots. Also I would rather smell like doe pee than I would anything. So mybe I should have voted yes. It helps to bring them in to bow range. I could hide in the cows & take a deer. I have seen them eat with the cows many times. I would not spoke the cow they know me. But I,d rather hunt the corn field. It's just like a deer magnet.:) :D

Bamboo Viper beat me to it. I try scents from time to time but have never had much sucess with them. I was using a tarsel gland soaked in urine (pulled it out of the bottle with my teeth too) and it brought a couple does in right away. They were looking for it and found it. Too messy and kinda gross, left it in the tree. I do use that Fall Woods cover scent alot though.

George said it. The best scent is no scent and I just prefer to not bait. Come to think of it, I've never harvested a deer using either method.

well i am mostly a still hunter , tried them tree stands last year . but i cant set still long enough . while settin in the stand i just couldnt keep from shooting at those pesky skurrrrls. and if you shoot an arrow into the ground around here . its really hard on them . i shoot mainly flint heads . so the rocks make little ones out of them. but i have killed my share of deer in the last 30 years .from the ground . and im sure that lack of experiance is mostly to blame on my stand hunting . but for me it seems easier to kill a deer off the ground than me being in a tree and doing it . i use no cover scent , mabey a camo shirt , if i hapen to grab it instead of a flannel. and always blue jeans .
now in all those years of hunting off the ground . i am still chasing that monster buck . they dont get older by being dummer. and slipping up on them is mostly a dream . it has happend but mostly i see where i think they are going and head them off. i am not a verry good setter and waiter. i have killed a couple verry nice bucks , never had them scored because there isnt much sence in it if i am going to turn them into knife handles and belt buckles.. hoot

right hoot bein still is very important.a deer sees a walking person very easy an you proll will never see that deer or his rump.butt if you are real still they wont see you.sometimes they may smell you an come lookin if they cant see you, specially mother does.but no doubt still huntin is much better than walkin all over the woods scarin everything in sight...very good post hoot

Scent is for people who like to give their money away for no reason.
Bait is for people that don't know how to hunt or are too lazy to scout.

My dad shot one last year from my tree stand that was without the aid of that.

is a cornfield,or grassy meadow or acorn tree or apple trees baiting...yes it is but is it unethical.i would say i hope not...like if this is considered unethical, then where are you going to hunt?

George I would consider baiting putting something in the area you hunt that would attract deer but was not originally there...aka deer cocaine, scent balls, etc...I think that hunting by acorn trees and their NATURAL food sources, that is not considered baiting because they would naturally be around these whether a hunter was there or not...

Hey, if you're so lazy earning a living for your family in the Big City miles(hours) from your hunting area then go ahead & use scents & baits. Just get'em!
Personally, I'm in hoot's boat. I can't set still & I want to get out & see things. Sometimes I wonder if using tree stands are unethical. You set your butt in a tree stand for hours on end waiting on an unsuspecting deer to come by & you call that hunting? Hoot is a hunter in my book.(even if he would use a x-bow!)
Now I'm probably Bowhunting Enemy #1. Oh well!

i do not bait, actually i do put out corn over a 10 acre field at my sisters.i do not hunt the field but trails back in the woods.now a cornfied i hunt at my cousins who has bout 1000 acres i hunt her standin corn, this is not aNATURAL FOOD source for deer either.(acorns are).but i actually stand in the corn bout 3 rows back watchin the outsde edge.either way you are using a method of bait for the deer.i will not be putting the attractant bait out at my sisters.one it is xpensive,2 it do not work for me.the standing corn or alfalfa feilds or acorns an even green field edges is lots more eeffctive

vvarmitr, I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and therefore I am not going to make you an enemy or anything else like that. I don't see how treestands are unethical but my opinion can be swayed...Lastly, I think that as long as it is an acceptable method of harvesting deer, I do not see a problem with it.

in my oppinion . hunting standing corn planted by a farmer is not baiting . but hunting standing corn that was planted to feed the deer is baiting .. but, scatering corn in a field for deer , and then hunting the trailes in and out of it is . i think would be conciderd baiting . throw the blue jeans on , put the wind in your face and go getum. hoot

deer eat corn,,,if you hide an wait, its bait...but i dont really care its lots easier an cheaper to hunt a corn feild...oh i said easier.yup puttin all that corn out is hard work an not very productive.they always are alert.they seem to know its not natural or a trick.i dont really know how to do that kinda huntin but it kept the deer fat an happy.heh heh heh.next yr. i save that money an get corn onCOB for me

Who cares.....
I voted yes, but now I wish I could put no opinion.
The reason being is who cares.... Just about every person I've met that said baiting is unethical shoots a gun, hunts from a tree stand, shoots a compound or even a glass back bow.
These same people are folks that think their way is the only way and if you don't do it the same then your a slob. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, but if the shoe fits.....
I've hunted several states and every state has it's own traditions and ethics. How many of you think hunting deer with dogs is unethical? Tell that to a few good ole boys down South and see what happens.
Scents.... Yelp, I've used them. I've only found two brands that ever worked. Both where fresh and still yellow. Both IMO helped me harvest the two bucks that are on my wall right now. IMO any lure you buy over the counter at Walmart, Miejers or just about any sporting goods store is worthless. The stuff I use I had to order or go to Pike County, Illinois to get. It's also expensive when compared to regular deer lures.
Back to baiting. Down South you almost have to bait if you want to see deer. EVERY ONE baits and the cover is so thick you can't get to the deer. Hunting back home is much easier than down South.

a corn field planted by someone who is only interested in the harvest of corn is not bait . corn or anything else put out to attract an animal is bait . night crawlers are not bait till they are put on a hook.. hoot

No problem. I have never used bait, so thats not a problem. Keeping clean and watching the wind will work in most cases.

I have been deer hunting for 9 years and never used a cover scent or bait. I have seen plenty of deer over these years, but I got my first one last year(a button buck).I sit real still on the ground and my problem was the deer fever not scent. I personally believe if you find a good deer traffic area and sit real still a few yards off their trails you will get a shot whether you use a bow(doesn't matter if its xbow or compound) or a gun. To me the keys are the traffic area and how much movement you make. I voted yes.

I can get one without the aid of either. I have never used baid and I doubt that I ever will. However on occasion I will use an acorn sent to cover up the scent of my dogs (2 labs). Now I have room since Ive moved to keep everything away from them so Im not scaring away deer. But I will attestify (sp) to using the acorn cover sent. I also only ground hunt. I will go up in a treestand every now and again to look around but almost all of my hunting is done from the ground.

I've got a nice photo album if you have any doubts. I never use bait or cover scent. No scent IS the best scent. It's been done for years before all the hype.

Yes...I don't use cover scents and rarely use any "bait". For does, hunt the food and for bucks early, hunt the rublines and later on, find the does and you'll find the bucks.
