Oklahoma or Texas??? Could be a great game!!!

This one is heading in the direction of being a good one!!!

What's on the line? Almost certainly a spot in the Big 12 title game, which could lead to a spot in the national title game. Maybe the Heisman Trophy for Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford or Texas quarterback Colt McCoy.

How else do you explain these numbers? The Big 12 is home to the No. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 scoring offenses in the nation. Kansas State is averaging 43.2 points per game and is sixth in its own conference. Baylor is scoring 30.8 points per game (Baylor!) and is 10th in the league.

Big 12 quarterbacks are No. 2, 3, 4, 7 and 10 in the nation in total offense. (The roll call, in order: Texas Tech's Graham Harrell, Kansas's Todd Reesing, Missouri's Chase Daniel, Oklahoma's Bradford and Texas's McCoy.)

Oklahoma is averaging 49.6 points per game, Texas is averaging 47.2 and this probably won't even be the highest-scoring Big 12 game of the day. Missouri is averaging 53.4 points and Oklahoma State is averaging 52.6.

Unlike most Big 12 schools this year, Texas and Oklahoma play stout defense, too, so don't be surprised if this is a low-scoring affair. But it sure would be fun to see the Red River Shootout live up to its label.

On the one hand, it's a century-old tradition, and I love all century-old traditions except for, you know, laws that prohibit women from voting, slavery, etc.

Do we love this tradition simply because it is a tradition? And if so, is that so wrong?

Is this Tradition Bigger than OSU/Michigan????

No, and.......GO BUCKS!!!

Oklahoma wins, I think they are just too balanced and too hard to stop. Texas' rushing leader is also their QB, and I don't think that will function well against Oklahoma.

Technically, the annual series between Oklahoma, the nation's No. 1 team, and Texas, the most overlooked fifth-ranked team in recent memory, but the last time it was as relevant as it is this weekend was 2004, when both were also in the top five.

The Red River Rivalry is great again!

It's even bigger when both teams are really, really good like they are this year. It's good for college football, and it's good for the Big 12 and this part of the country that both teams are really good this year and it should match up to be a great game.

Ninety-thousand fans will divide the Cotton Bowl with their allegiances — half burnt orange, the other half crimson. And the rest of us will follow along in high-definition on our big-screen televisions.

This isn't Sam Bradford against Colt McCoy, the star quarterbacks on everyone's Heisman Trophy short lists. And this isn't Stoops against Brown, the league's two best coaches.

This is the Big 12's, the conference's two "face" programs proving on the national stage why they are household names, why the South is perhaps the nation's toughest division — and yes, that includes either division in the Whiny SEC.

These games don't come along every year. The rivalry does, but this game doesn't.

Notice that no one is talking about being undefeated. Notice the Sooners could care less about being No. 1. Notice the Longhorns in the underdog role, despite the fact that the last 15 times since 1950 the schools have met as undefeated teams OU has won nine times.

This game can change all of that.

Win this game, this year, and bolster your national reputation, if that's even possible. Think about it — the Sooners would clearly be the nation's team to beat, possibly until the Big 12 Championship.

Move over USC, OSU, LSU, and all the others..........

Time will telll...some real big games coming up for all of the top 10 teams...and lots could happen.

Oklahoma looks good right now...solid.....but Texas can pull it off...Colt McCoy is in his 3rd year and having a fairly good year, and both defenses are playing well...should be a good game!
