Hey guys,
Had a great hunt last night and arrowed a fat doe.
What do you guys do with the hides from your deer? Seems like a waste to throw it away.....

There used to be a place in Hartville, Ohio that would buy them off of you. Can't remember the name- maybe someone else does.

I give them to a friend of mine. He uses them to make all kinds of bags, pouches, hats, etc.

1) "Sell" it to the processor. Usually, they charge you about $5 to get it back. If you leave it, they give you a discount.
or keep it
2) Tan it yourself - plenty of instructions out there.
3) Flesh the hide, salt the hide and send it out for tanning
4) Bring it to a taxidermist, he'll flesh/salt and send for processing with hair on or hair off (buckskin).
It all depends how much money and time you have to devote to it.

Most of the processers around charge $5 to skin it.If you want to keep they'll charge you another $5.That's because there's a few people that travel around and buy them for $3 to $5 and make clothing and such.If you don't have the time or the resources, they're not worth messing with.IMO :bouncy:
