UM better get another Loss ready to post in their Loss Column:D ....State is looking good!!!

Another Native Ohioan Brian Hoyer and his team does well today against Notre Dame.....:bouncy: :bouncy:

Michigan St. 23, Notre Dame 7Updated: September 20, 2008, 7:51 PM EST

(AP) - Javon Ringer is trying to share the spotlight.

He brought a slew of offensive linemen, tight ends and fullbacks to a news conference after running for 201 yards and two touchdowns on 39 attempts, carrying the Spartans to a 23-7 win over Notre Dame on Saturday.
"We were able to win because of these guys," Ringer said. "Not because of me."

Nice try, Ringer.

His speed, power and some spin helped him take advantage of holes, becoming the first player to run for 200 yards in consecutive games in Michigan State history.

Ringer has carried the ball 143 times this year, making him the busiest running back through four games since Iowa State's Troy Davis had six more carries in 1996 according to STATS.

"You can hit him and hit him and he just keeps coming," Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said.

Ringer led the nation with nine touchdowns and 104 carries after three games, coming off career highs with 43 carries and 282 yards last week.

"You want to feature your best player," Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said. "And right now, that's our tailback."

Michigan State (3-1) took a 13-0 lead into the fourth quarter, then sealed the victory by handing off to Ringer on all seven plays of a 77-yard drive he capped with a TD with 2:16 left.

"Giving Javon the ball each time was a statement for our offensive line," Michigan State quarterback Brian Hoyer said. "We did what we wanted to do."

The Irish (2-1) turned the ball over three times and missed two field goals, hurting their chances of starting 3-0 for the first time since 2002 and the second time in 12 years.

Jimmy Clausen was 24-of-41 for 242 yards with a TD and two interceptions in the first half, one of which was in the end zone on a play that was overturned by a video review.

"Jimmy, with how things had gone in the first half, could have come out and gone flat in the second half," Weis said. "But he certainly didn't. He really stepped up and picked up his game."

Clausen was sacked three times - after not being sacked in the first two games - and was hurried and hit numerous times.

Michigan State shut down the Irish's running game and the sacks led to them finishing with 16 yards rushing and seven points, both of which were among the worst totals in Weis' three-plus seasons.

"We were one-dimensional," Clausen said.

Michael Floyd caught a 26-yard TD pass early in the fourth quarter, getting Notre Dame within six points, after fumbling at the Michigan State 20 early in the third.

The Spartans got off to a good start, limiting Notre Dame to minus-5 yards on its first two drives and kicking a field goal on their opening possession.

Clausen's up-for-grabs pass in the end zone to a double-covered Duval Kamara was ripped away by safety Otis Wiley on Notre Dame's third drive. It was originally ruled incomplete but overturned by replay.

Clausen threw another poor pass in the second quarter and it was picked off by Wiley at the Notre Dame 22, setting up Ringer's first TD.

Ringer took another step toward stardom with his performance against an Irish team geared to stop him. His highlight of the day was a 63-yard run that set up his second TD.

Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi compared Ringer to Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett.

"Put my vote in for Javon Ringer for the Heisman Trophy," Narduzzi said.

Weis was on the sideline without crutches, wearing a brace under his blue slacks that protected his right knee that was injured in last week's win over Michigan.

After trying to deflect questions about his health leading up to the game, Weis tried his best after it to address a question about a laptop that officials removed from Notre Dame's coaching box.

"It wasn't like there was somebody trying to do something illegal," Weis said.

Dee, get off Hoyers nuts. Dude, he and Sparty better beat UM this year. If they can't win this year then when will they? I know your friends with him, but God, he actually isn't that good in case you didn't notice.

The Spartans are playing good ball and Ringer is doing very well!!! State is getting all the talk in MIichigan and they re 3-1 right now. Great Start for them!

I did say 8-4, which isn't impossible, yet:irked: We really gave the game away to the Domers though. They hardly had to work to score against us.
UM is not good enough to play bad and win.

UM could have beat ND - IF they hadn't turned the ball over and spotted them 14 points and IF they could stop their running game at all. After watching State completely doinate them at the line and UM get dominated I think it is clear MSU has a much tougher trench unit at this point. If State continues to play as hard on the lines they will have a good season - both their lines appear to now be playing with a mean streak.

I have a feeling MSU will give a couple games away in league play (as usual) and get beat a couple games when teams load up and stop Ringer (he won't hit 100 yards in at least 2 league games), but I'll take them to beat UM this year. Although I don't see 8-4, IF UM's defense plays like it should be (see OSU) they could be in every game. Too many "ifs" and I think the bowl streak is in jeopardy personally. 8-10 wins should be possible in 2009 as the offense should be markedly better. 2010 should tell where that program is headed under RR - all the places will be in place and the experience will be there ready to shine. I'm sure everybody in A2 and the staff is very disappointed with the defense thus far. It is sad when OSU and UM are two teams that clearly need to "man up" and play with more toughness on defense.

Let's keep things in perspective though - ND isn't very good. They have some play makers, but they are still young overall and make mistakes. They have a patsy schedule this year and may win 8-9 games, but they aren't even close to being a top 25 team. They would go .500 in the Big Ten this year IMO. They should be oood next year, or the staff needs tweaked as they have some players.

Once State plays some league teams things will change just as they always do. Contain Ringer and put a little pressure on Hoyer and they become pedestrian. Do neither and they look like world beaters just as every other team would.

And I wouldn't put much stock in anything UM does this year either - they may not be performing as good as folks want up there, but they'll be back to a good team soon.

Pretty much spot on FnF. I honestly can't believ our D Line isn't playing any better. Our Safety play has been terrible for 3 years now. Most TD passes this year have been on our safeties.

if you haven't noticed State does this every year, build up expectations in the first few games and proceed to implode down the stretch, they are more than capable of finding a way to blow the Michigan game, hopefully Michigan can at least keep the streak against State going, Penn St streak is probably gonna end for sure

Sparty did what I hoped UM would do to ND. Yes, I said it, I am an OSU fan and I was rooting for UM when they played ND. :mischeif:

MSU is playing decent football right now, but Hoyer looks like the weak link. If a team can bottle up Ringer, can they still win? By the way, I think Javon Ringer may be one of the most underrated players in the country. He's a great football player, I like watching him...just not against OSU. :D

Cream - you would be watching him in Scarlet & Gray if he had better grades and a test score. Ringer was all set to be a Buckeye, but admissions wouldn't allow it. I like Ringer too - plays at 110% EVERY play. I think he is now going to receive the recognition as he is being mentioned in the Heisman talk - and rightfully so with his 4 game performance. I just question how many 35-40 carry games the guy can play and remain healthy?

I did not know that! No wonder he gets pumped for OSU every year.

We'll see how he stands up to what the Big Ten will do to him. You know it's going to be 8+ guys in the box until Hoyer proves he can beat teams. If Hoyer can open things up for Ringer, I could see him being at least in attendance at the Downtown Athletic Club for the Heisman ceremony.

Looking so good Hoyer and Ringer can pull off a win!!!!

Good game here this week...

Secondly, OSU ...on the line play is playing poorly on both sides of the ball. Still work to do.

Pryor is still learning...and Jenkins finally played to his potential this past weekend......and the BUCKEYES won!!!

This Saturday will be a tough one:biggrin:

BUCKS OR STATE???

I hope not, but the buckeyes could end up with an 8-4 record if their offence doesnt start sticking in the end zone instead of kicking field goals. Mich state, Penn State and Illi. properly give them all they want.

I'll admit he finally had a good game. Lately UM has been making every QB look like a future top 10 pick. But Dee, about the only other team he could play for in the big 10 would be UM
