I have tried Buckeye Phesant a couple of times been a few years though. The prices wernt to bad at the time. It is located near New Lebanon, souht west of dayton if wondering. Had a good time and the people were very nice, I f you want to hunt a preserve i would recomend it.
Lone Oak Farm located next to Delaware wildlife area. Hands down one of the best hunts for the money.
Hen hunts are 9 birds for around 110. What makes it nice, is that he throws extra roosters out in the fields everday. So, there is a challange to get a rooster as well even if you opt for an all hen hunt. I always pay for the hen hunt, shoot the hens, and also shoot a rooster or two. Don't think I have ever left the place without shooting at least 1 rooster.
Bill is also a great guy and will do whatever it takes to make the hunt good. He will also work with you if you have a young pup that you are trying to get on birds.
For the month of September he has hens for $10, no minimum. You can go buy 1 bird and take the dog out and hunt it up.

I don't have much to compare to. Triple Creek Farm is the only place I've been and while it's not a liberated type farm I've enjoyed every trip there. Great flyers and good cover.

Hey 30-06 you got a # or email adress on lone oak?
Here is the number for Lone Oak.

Bill Omen is the owner. Real nice guy.
I think he is opening up for the year the last weekend of August. Just stopped by there this morning to pick a few things up from him for our Ducks Unlimited banquet coming up in September. Cover there is looking real good, despite some of the late planting.

I am partial to Blue Spruce Game Birds over by Bryan, OH.
I have to admit though, that I have not tried any others. Been happy with their operation.

Just a thought?

If I can get off work count me in.
I think that we could put something together for October. That way, the weather should be cool enough for the dogs.

If we try to set a date out far enough I will try to make it. Week end of Oct. 18 sounds good to me. I don't know about anybody else. but a day during the week works better for me.

You can expect to pay $16 to $18 per rooster regardless where you go. Hens will run you from $12-$16. Lone Oak is close to me and I made it out there quite a bit last yr. Bill goes out of his way to give you a good hunt. I plan to get out in sept for those hen hunts. If you have 2 guys, a 6 rooster limit is $108 and you can add as many birds as you want, rooster is $18, I don't remember what hens are, thats last yrs prices anyways. For each guy just add $54 for the minimun hunt, 1 guy is 6 birds, $108, 2 guys is 6 birds, $108, 3 guys is 9 birds, $162 and 4 guys are 12 birds, $216.
I always throw in 2 or 3 hen per guy and you end alot of fun.
I think a get together would be a great idea. I believe only 4 guys to a group is allowed but theres 4 sections to hunt. So a total of 16 guys could hunt and thats for the morning session from 8am to 12pm, the afternoon hunt is separate session and you would have to pay again for more birds to hunt all day.
Anyone wanting to get together for a hunt let me know, I have good dogs and I go to different preserves. If you never been on a preserve and want just one guy to go with to check it out I'll take ya, as long as your safe. I have been up to Bucyrus to hunt at Elkhorn lake and had a blast. I'll be trying quite a few different ones this yr.

I kind of feel wrong in "advertising" on here. After I put that post on I thought it was the wrong place to do it but now its done so anyhow.
I also worry about advertising on the web because of animal rights freaks. So I tell you what you e-mail me and I will tell you all you want to know. Not trying to put you off but the animal nuts really can be detrimental to a hunting preserve, that is the main reason I do not want to post a phone number on here .
I will tell you we are about 40 miles north of Dayton and around 50 miles West of Columbus.
Any of you guys ever visit the website
www.naga.org ?
We have a listing on there.

Let me see if I got this right Aimrite is looking for a place to PAY to hunt?!?!?
Does that not contridict his very own signature!
I'm shocked he is willing to PAY those greedy land owners that have turned their property into "preserves"!!!
WOW..........I guess it's all in the eyes of the beholder
What's next a LAND LEASE?

TF,
I'm sure there are those who are looking forward to the day but rest assured I'm not going anywhere anytime soon!
Question - Are you a REAL Marine or weekend warrior?
(Don't take that the wrong way, its a serious question)

10Gauge,
I sure hope I'm a real Marine. I've been doing this for 17 years now. :)
Reservist are real Marines too. They go through the same basic training, Marine Combat Training and schools too. The only difference is that they only work two days a month and two weeks a year. Regardless of how much time they dedicate they still went through all the crap that it takes to wear our uniform. Once they get to their commands they slack off a bit because they are "civilianized", but regardless they still are real Marines.:)
I'm on active duty. I graduated boot camp as a PFC and now I'm a CW0-2.

Has anyone used the preserve in Carrol County? I've heard about it, but never been there.
We had our Airedale hunt at Monigold's near Newcomerstown. Great cover and the birds were really nice. Not sure of the prices as we hunted at special rates because our host is a member.

Being pushed out of bow hunting in my own state due to competitive atmosphere created by my fellow bow hunters in the woods. The average guy loses access to hunting ground every year in the name of greed.
10guage i relly dont see how phesant hunting on preserve open to the public for penn raised pheasants has anything to do with loss of access of deer hunting land.
If you mean "greed" Im not only talking about $$$ but selfishness for good hunting land.Greed for all mighty buck.
How many of us have seen farmer close his land to a selective few for various reasons.?
Personelly, I have written permission on a farm for about 10 years and i hear from him every year how relatives and neibors are asking him to close for QDM. One neibor a Dr was willing to pay him NOT TO ALLOW HUNTING AT ALL to improve hunting on his neiboring property. Ive done everything I can to keep permission and my seasons are numbered.
Yep its true.

Wife and I went over there last year to put the edge on a new dog. Did a hen hunt. Lots of fun and owner went out of his way to make sure everything went well. We'll be going back again this year with our now seasoned dog.

One thing I've found out about the Carroll County Shooting Preserve is that you are required to take their guide along. Other preserves I've hunted simply show you the boundaries unless you need one of their dogs. What is normal?
Lance
11-21-2003, 04:53 PM
The two places I've gone require you to have a guide even if you've got your own dogs.

We dont supply a guide unless you ask for one in advance. We show the boundries, set the birds and say have a good time.

Every time I have been to Blue Spruce Game Birds, they take you to your field, make sure you know your boundries and wish you well. I always have my dog with me and that doesn't seem to make a difference.

I just got a brochure from Muscovy Run Preserve near Kinsman, OH. The prices look very reasonable. I think I'll take Star up and give it a try.

Star & I hunted Muscovy Run preserve yesterday with a friend and his Airedale. We had 10 chukars and 4 pheasants released and the cost was $80 for the hunt. That is $40 each. Not bad for an afternoon in the field with my dog and getting a couple of meals to boot.
